Hi DuckMuck, you posted a picture of a W124 with a Burlwood steering wheel. Do you know what class of MB did the wheel came from? I am looking to swap into wood steering wheel as well and am wondering will any other MB class steering wheel fit my W124 300E?
Thanks Peter |
chupr98,
Are you referring to this steering wheel? http://www.people.cornell.edu/pages/...41700025_2.jpg That isn't my car, so I don't know the specifics of where he got the steering wheel. However, from lookin' at the wheel, it looks aftermarket. The owner bought the steering wheel from an aftermarket company, and then fitted an OE Mercedes-Benz airbag unit to the wheel. From what I can see, the wheel looks like it is made by PKW. |
Hi DuckMuck,
Yes, this is the picture, awesome looking! Are all steering wheels interchangeable between model? Thanks |
I'm not too sure...but from what I could see, a W140 S500's steering wheel is the same as my W124 E420's steering wheel...these are the only two M-B's I am familiar with...so I don't see why it wouldn't be interchangable, although I could be wrong. The only car that I know that has a wood trim on the steering wheel is the W140 S600, but I don't know if it is burl walnut. You can also try the accessory catalogue at the M-B dealership...I saw a lot of wood-trim steering wheels in the catalgue last time I was flipping through it.

I believe you can change the innards of the wheel putting your wheels innards in the s class wood wheel to make it work. But I am not sure. I think I remember someone had done it to their w124 though.

I believe it was BZP who did that.
I remember an interesting post about his modifications. Try a search for "Xeonons in W124" Mike McKinney |
It was BZP and this was the thread:
