M110 into W124?
Has anyone considered swapping an M110 (DOHC I6) into a 300E? I found a nice 300E body/interior but the motor is trash.
I have a chance to buy a 280SE (W126) parts car with a good motor and trans. Since the M110 is an FI motor, how difficult can this swap be when other W124s had I6s... |
i think you will have two big things. one wiring harness, two hood clearance. i think the 110 will interfere with your hood. the 103 motor is one cam and lays over. i think it sits lower in relationship to the road.

I wonder if the later W124s with the M104 motor had a different hood.

Gimme a ride in it if ya build it!

:D Will do.
I know the speedo will work as it's mech, the fuel will, coolant probably so, oil pressure probably. What about the tach, isn't the pickup like a crank trigger deal on the 300Es? Would the computer freak out on the ABS? |
i would think the speedo on the 124 is electronic though.

My buddies bounces at low speeds like a mech one. Unless maybe the VSS is going bad.

The speedo on my 89 300e is mechanical, there is a large cable that connects from the trans to the back of the speedo, I am assuming that is meaning it is mechanical, you know the cable inside spins and therefore turns the speedo.
Unless MB decided to use a giant coaxial looking cable to send the signal to the speedo? |
i dont actually know.

Speedo on 124's right up to the end were mechanical.
Sometimes Mercedes was very slow to update when an improved technology came along. Now they have gone the opposite way - too much high technology. |
