190E airflow sensor swap with 450se/sel

I heard that you could swap the 190E airflow sensor with the 450se/sel. I was wondering if any one has done this or heard about it. What's involved and how much fabrication is needed.

Hi amartin2,
Welcome to Mercedesshop!
Even if it is possible, it would be pointless since there would still be a "bottle neck" at the throttle body. The key is to get more air in the engine, fuel supply is easy. Where did you get this info?

Swap the 180E airflow sensor for a 450SE/SEL airflow sensor. The trick to squeezing more power out of the K Jetronic fuel injection is more airflow
That modification will really unleash some impressive
power and is relatively cheap. The only thing you'll have to do is add your 6 cylinder fuel distributor to the 8 cylinder airflow sensor.Make sure that the transmission and engine mounts are solid too.
Other than that, gut the cat,buy a freeflow muffler and cancel the airbox.Fab a cold air box instead and use a cone type filter with the largest hose to the airflow sensor that will fit.Maybe also find some 8mm
spark plug wires and an R107 differential (380SL/SLC)to increase the acceleration tremendously.

If u know any ways to increase horsepower on a 280sel plz post to me cheers

Hope that helps
Millsy

this is the reply I got on mercedes forum. A Mercedes will never be a Honda.... And that's a good thing!
Honda's are so easy to "supe up" because there is a ton of aftermarket parts manufacturers for them. This is not the same for Mercedes. Your 12 valve M102 engine is not a VTEC by any imagination, then again neither is a 12 valve Honda. You could buy a 190E 2.3-16V or some other high performance Benz,,, but that's not your question.

As for the KE injection airflow meter.... Total BS.

Analogy:
You can hook up a garden hose to Niagara Falls and your still going to get garden hose output. The garden hose here is the throttle body.

Sure you could put a larger TB on as well but then what?? All that work for only 10 or 15 HP.You can get more horsepower out of your M102 the question is how much is it worth to you (how much do you want to spend) and what's your application. Answer that and I'll be glad to give you advice...

Well I am not sure on the application just yet I might get another Benz for daily driver and go wild with this one I am not into shows or any thing like that so not worried about pretty parts right now I would say just some street fun I have a k&n on it right now because it og filter was packed with crap. I am doing an exhaust soon I am having friends of mine who do custom work do it. Thinking about 3inch with high flow cat and turbo muffler it’s quit but flows good and tip of some sort. First I am doing a good filter replacement and tune up but I broke my wrist so its slow go for now. cost it would all be done in stages so it not a big deal. The tb swap sounds like I can do that with one hand might be nice to fill my time kinda kidding.

Please don't rice out your Benz... If your going for sound, work on the exhaust. If you want more performance, forget it. You'll make 5 extra HP tops.... If done correctly.

This will take removing your entire manifold and plenty of cutting, welding and fabrication. "REAL" performance takes time and money. If I were you wouldn't even start there. That project would be a waste of time. Go turbo, supercharger, nitrous, EFI or something like that. All well worth the money and time.

As for the exhaust it’s on the list so to speak. The tb might be fun to do on someone else’s car. But not mine. Now where are the real parts at what room do you keep them in I haven’t found **** on line about a 190E besides hopps and 22extra horse power by plugging in two wires that’s almost as good as the vortex sorry so yeah who what and where are these parts. I was also looking at a trend on here about an e320 to 190e swap that’s great I would love more about this kinda thing
