I have a part number for a steering wheel for my 1989 300E. I would like to know if this steering wheel will fit on my car. The part # is 201-460-24-03. Also, is this the leather wrapped steering wheel or the rubber/vinyl wrapped wheel?? TIA

I'm 99% sure that the wheel is for the 300E up to 91. Which makes it the leather wheel. Note, that this is the rectangular style wheel. I also cross ref. that number because I saw one for sale cheap. Unfortunately its not the later style 92 up wheel so I passed. It should fit perfectly on your 89.

I can double check on Monday to be 100% if you need to know.

I'm not sure what you're looking for,

but the 300E wheel up to 91 is not leather, it's that awful rubbery vinyl. The leather wheel was not OE on US models until 92, at least in the US. Hope this helps.

The 300E was equipped with the rubbery wheel up until 89. In 90, the wheel turned to leather but kept the same style. In 92, the wheel changed to the later style that was shared with the other models. My 91 had the early style wheel but was no doubt leather. It is now a burlwood Sclass wheel from a 95. I think it's about to change again. I just got a 01 SLK 320 wood wheel and i'm in search of an airbag for it. I believe the late 202 and 129 chassis bags interchange. This will look sweet.

Later,
Bill

300E SW

You are correct sir. I see so many of them that the years run together. Whatever the case, anything's better than that awful rubber thing! Can you believe that a car that cost $50k ten years ago had that cheap wheel?!
