Hi Everyone

Although my car is an intermediate phase right now (no passenger front door panel or seat and various trim items missing) I went to Texas Motorplex Friday night in Ennis, TX and did a real drag race for the first time ever - Considering I had never done this and didn't torque brake because I haven't perfected that technique I don't think I did that bad, but my 1/4 times were actually worse thatn those for a stock 1995 C280, plus my reaction time was horrible, but that didn't affect the quarter mile times.

Anyhow, the first time - I raced a C4 Corvette - probably early 90's model and posted a 16.308 @ 86.02 MPH and he did a 14.243 @ 83.30. I knew I didn't launch mine right and I don't think I got the tranny to kick down in 1st gear plus I didn't torque brake the car. The second time around I whooped another red C4 with drag slicks- I did a 16.440 @ 85.30 while he did a 17.2 @ 81.55. As I was looking over, he beat me off the line, but I overtook him at the 1/8 mile and held a lead from there on. I assume the 2nd C4 couldn't shift right or launched terribly.

The reason I think my times were bad - was for a variety of reasons:
1) My first drag race ever
2) Temp gage in cluster was running at 100 C 2nd time and engine was generally hot - plus humid weather - around 78 or so
3) Didn't torque brake at launch
4) Correct me if I'm wrong - but warm weather and humidity seem to slow my car down - but this could be the crappy air intake I have - more about it is posted below

But most of all, I was shocked I didn't run a 15.5 - since I think that's what it should do bone stock and mine is modidfied. I think I'm going to scrap the whole custom air intake business since the part bolting to the MAF sensor is made out of alumnium and to close to the exhaust valves; therefore it get too hot - I will run a K&N filter in the stock air box and go back to the track in about a month.

Anyhow, I would appreciate any comments/feeback on my drag race.

Thanks,
Troy

I can't offer you any valuable advice. However, congratulations on drag racing your car, pretty brave and all.

I would say that most normally aspirated cars I have driven are significantly more responsive in cool and dry conditions. This is particularly noticeable in the UK in the late spring when there is occasionally a very cold and dry evening. The cars I have been fortunate enough to drive are much sharper on such evenings.
