Warning Bastard swap - MB purists don't look please!

OK some of you have heard about this swap for the last few years. I finally took pictures of the motor in the car. I did this swap in 1987 and my dad blew it up sometime in 1997. With my dad's passsing a few months back I got the car back in my possession.

Here are the pictures. post what you figure out about the swap.....
I will post more details later.

Basic.
1978 240D W123 (1/4 mile time 27 sec)
In 1979 I added a BAE turbo kit to the car. (1/4 mile time 20 sec)
In 1986 I removed the 120k Diesel engine and swapped it for a NON-MB Gasoline engine........

After the swap this is the performance results.
0-60 in 8 seconds!
1/4 mile 16.0 flat.
8 psi boost
ran great never had a problem until the motor developed a rod knock at 100k miles.

Current status: Motor is going to get a rebuild and new EFI system going in along with a intercooler.

low on oil? water in oil?

gas in oil?

all these could run out your bearings.

I was just kidding. I have heard so many times "we havent had to do anything to our toyota". Then you look in the glove box and see the recipt for the head gasket. And another for a tranny.
Those are great engines. I have worked on a few pickups with the turbo 4 in them. Their pretty fast!

Or two head gaskets and a new engine, that needs a head gasket, new turbo, new radiator... money pits. that does look like it fits nicely in there though, I give you props on the work.

I don't think that craftsmanship requires an apology.

On the Toyota engine: I know two people who had thermostats fail once on their Toyotas. I know the same two people who had to get their Toyota's head gasket(s) replaced and heads shaved. Can't say if it was an "idiot light" issue or not, but I don't think that any engine made by anyone is immune to maintenance needs or failure.

The 22RE-T engine that is in the car had 86k on it to begin with. I put in total seal rings, cut the pistons down to 8.5 to 1 compression. and then my dad drove it another 100k before the rod knock developed. So I would say we got our use out of it. I had the car running since 1987 now I can rebuild everything and install a intercooler.

Actually the 7MGTE engine was built in a transitional phase when asbestos was no longer allowed apparently and thus they whipped together a shoddy head gasket to ship the cars out on time, didnt torque them down enough either. Only like 55 ft lbs.
