16v on track pics

Had a great day on 27th January on track here in the UK in my 2.5-16. It is fantastic on track, I was really enjoying it and getting a move on by the end of the day, carving through the field (ok it was the "novice" class :p but hey!) past Caterhams, Lotus Elises, new Minis, Preludes and other stuff which really should be faster than the 16v. I put it down to its driveability, stability and benign handling which is easy to get to grips with and satisfying to get the best from. Most corners were 3rd gear, some 4th. The longest straight saw about 115mph before you had to brake. I went pretty easy on the car because it's old, but it dealt with it fine apart from a rear tyre blowout in the last session .

Photos by http://www.edpphoto.com, who donated some of their profits to charity (it was a charity day!) and there's a whole load more photos from the day in their gallery.

Awesome.. that's what the 16v's live for. Is the suspension stock? Doesn't seem to be much body roll at all. What is the top speed?

It felt very much at home! Yes suspension is completely stock, tyres are stock Pirelli P6000
Top speed on this track is about 115mph (I wasn't looking!). Most of the shots there are at about 65-70mph.

Cornering shots of some of the other cars on the day for comparison:

looks like good clean fun!

last year i autocrossed all summer well into fall with my 84 500sec, my 05 magnum and my 84 280 e euro. the benzes do well for what they are. easy to drive with good balance. i surprised some folks with cars that should be faster.

the minis are just unbeatable in autocross though!
