John, the 2 sensors are not at the output shaft. Here is an interesting reading on 722.9 transmission. It has 3 sensors instead of 2 in 722.6.

http://www.mercedestechstore.com/pdfs/286_722.9/286%20HO%20722.9%20062504.pdf

Check pages 44 - 46. On p 46 you'll find that sensor n3 "Replaces wheel speed information previously used to calculate shift points and detect gear slip".

Not surprised. I have the ATSG manual on order. I ordered it because I thought I was going to need it.

First Tankfull

It's nice to be on the road.

I took it out again tonight. So far everything works perfectly. It was nice to drive it after aligning the wheels. Huge difference between a front end just thrown together with eccentric just centered and one aligned. It actually felt dangerous before.

Tomorrow will be the first trip of any significance about 15 miles to the exhaust shop, for the final cat to muffler parts. I will have them install the original MB SL600 muffler (very big and quite) and have them make me up an interchangable European sounding muffler.

Have you left any stoplights with "expedience" yet?

I think I have been to that gas station, isn't thier a lake right up the street...forget the name.

I think you should try some louder mufflers, Flowmasters maybe.

Nothing more than what I did in my driveway. I do have a drive shaft vibration that I would like to get under control first. I am using the stock 560SL drive shaft for the moment. Probably one of the first things to re design.

My friend with a SL500 motor in his SEC had them make one up for him, along with cooling shields/fans.

Yes I did look into that company and just about every other company on the web. All are either too thick or too thin. An MB core is just right.

Are you still working as Sikorsky. I may be down there this week. I pick it up from the exhaust place tomorrow. Maybe Thursday or Friday it will be down at the plant. So far all is very stable. A slow cruise for 20 mile to Branford today temps stayed just around 90° for the whole trip. No excessive fan cycling in fact it was hardly ever on.

With the muffler installed I will probably take 91 home and see how it is on sustained highway speeds.

Thank You

I got my Exhaust Installed today. I did not like the Flowmaster way too load and obnoxious sounding. I like the stock SL600 much better it on to stay.

I drove the car for the first time any significant time on the highway 16 miles on I91 approximately 20 miles total trip. The car for some reason lacks off the line power when warm. But at 80mph there is no shortage of power warm or cold it will just pull like a rocket. I do believe that something is going on with it like a temporary limp home mode until its cool enough.

Trans also appears to be slipping or something on part throttle acceleration will check shortly. Other than that it runs solid.

You disable ESP? Put it into first?

Mine feels a little sluggish off the line when warm, but building some REVs before taking off livens it up. Disabling ESP and shifting into first makes for a lively launch too! Soo lively, that I leave black rubber.

Did you try to reset the adaptive trannie?

Have you had it kickdown at about 30MPH yet?

Mine will throw you sideways with ESP off....

(I think this is why I need new rear tires, while I have like 80% front treadlife left... )

I dont have ESP connected which maybe the problem. I believe there are two limp home modes one for the trans and one for the engine.

My understanding is if the trans has a problem you only get reverse and the last forward gear you were in. I am shifting but I have yet to feel more than 2 shifts in Summer mode or 1 in Winter mode. I'm not sure if I'm just not feeling the 3rd and 4th shifts. I have no speedometer so its difficult to tell at the moment. At highway speeds estimated 70-80mph it was turning 2500RPM which I thought was high for that speed in 5th gear OD with a 2.47:1 rear end. I get no response to kick down at all.

My understanding of engine limp home is it only runs on 6 cyl. I think that is what I'm in right now. I could not spin wheels up the drive way like it did in the last video I posted however its still pretty damn powerful. I probably will be able to smoke em really good in the morning so I think it's going in and out of engine limp home.

Lots of testing and learning to do but with it on the road and mufflers installed I can now focus on this.

Driving will most likely be limited for the moment.
