8-30-08 Progress

Well the exhaust wrap and heat shielding look like about it for the weekend. I'm just letting the exhaust dry overnight before painting. I will paint and install the exhaust into the car first thing in the morning and wash and start polishing the car. Thats all I can do before the radiator comes. The good news is the guy expects to deliver on Tuesday.

9-01-08 Progress Little Smokey Burnout

I got the whole thing back together and decided to try to put just a little coal to the fire for one pass up the drive way. I flipped the throttle slightly, broke the rear loose and went up the driveway. That was enough to tell the computer the gear ratio is wrong or the ESP is not hooked up. It went into limp home mode and will now, not rev above 3000 RPM. However in its short 10 mph run in limp mode it still performs like a stock 560SL.

I finally got my wife to take a video. Of coarse she screws it up at the end with the dog. I have to say no Pugs or wives were beaten in the making of this video. Note this video was taken with the car in limp home mode. The car currently has open cats.

Big smokey is comming

haha....for a moment I thought your pup was a goner. Sounds good, though I'm sure once your exhaust is complete it will have a meaner more subtle tone. Can't wait for more!

Actually the vidio does not do the exhaust any justice at all. It has a really nice 70's F1 crack to it with the open cats. It's hard to beleiv that asside from the two cars, the exhaust system was the most expensive part of the projects costing over $1300. and thats just pipes, stainless steel, header wrape ect. The cats I already had. Of coures about $200.00-$300.00 of that is mistakes and do overs.

Thanks Justin. Looks like I did not make California this year. I was hoping to do California this year and encompas Boneville speed week, but I guss I'm a little late. I told the guy whos building my radiator that I'm going to test it up Pikes Peak. I hope he does a good job. Next year I hope to be putting the car through its paces all over the country.

Is that a really good deal. What does it cost to have a custom made SS exhaust. I thought I screwed myself.

John, if and when you make it out to California, I will buy you a tank of gas, and buy you (and your wife) dinner.... In exchange for a ride in the beast.

About $800 for my SDL which is far simpler than yours. Just one pipe coming back, a resonator and muffler.

From these guys:

$4.5k for the full system on my 190e V8. Granted the space may have been a little tighter requiring more fabrication (shop time), but I know that the headers were 2/3's of that price alone
