Congratulations.

So you got it on the road, and it shifted normally without going into limp home mode? That is fantastic.

I'm going to try to get a video today. I believe it is ready for the big smoky. The challenge is getting a body and a camera.

Just gassed it up. Took it for a spin. Got all 5 gears down shifted smooth. So far no issues.

I did punch it once from about 30 mph. It down shifted and scared the $!#t out of me. I'm just not as young as I used to be and this kind of power takes some getting used to, especially when you in a mode where your watching out for anything doing on fire or listening for things falling apart.

Full Tank

Lets see how long it last. The last two tank fulls went about as fast as a 6 pack of Guinness on St. Patty's day in a Boston pub. Im expecting this to get better gas millage than the M117 at least if I can ever learn to get my foot off it. But previously in 3rd gear limp mode it really sucked it down.

It's great to see it's finally out on the road. Congratulations, John!

Thumbs up

A warmest, heartfelt, awe-inspiring, (and envious..) congratulations John! on what must have been a challenging, time-consuming, (expensive!), at times frustrating, but nevertheless a very gratifying endeavour and no doubt a highly deserved sense of achievement. I am sure many of us here have systematically logged in just to take a pick at your progress on this awesome conversion that has taken you just over 2 years!. The first pics you posted were dated on 02-11-2007, and you must have been at it a while longer earlier on!.

You must have a very understanding family that have given you the time and space for this project!!!!.

What in your opinion needs to be reinforced, looked at, uprated or upgraded to complement the balance of Samson with this V12 heart transplant?. Would you consider hiring Samson out to members of SamsonShopForum just for a spin at, say $100 for a 5 minutes run?, just to recoup conversion costs!

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I have been driving it around quite a bit this morning. So far everything is working according to plan. I went to the MB dealer this morning to get some parts and they were very impressed with it. I haven't really pushed it to hard yet but so far nothing seems odd or noticeably different with the handling. I'm sure I will will be playing the bar and tire pressure games sooner or later.

As far as I'm concerned this concludes the can it be done question about the M120 into a 107. It can and will fit and run elegantly.

But the work is far from done. AC needs to be connected, radiator needs to be redesigned, some emission controls need to be completed (It did pass without them), speedometer needs to be connected and I have all the ESP stuff so I might as well hook it up. Then with all that working and rung out the whole thing comes apart to be painted and re-wheeled.

At this time I would like to thank the people of this forum who helped out with this project. I have not worked on cars professionally in over 20 years and went into this project without a clue of MB's systems past the 1989 model year. So with your brains and my money this project has turned out to be a great success.

If anyone's in the area I'm hoping to have the car at Lebanon Vally Dragway, West Lebanon New York, April 18th for the opening test and tune day.
