rear diff inquiry
I have an 86 300E, I was thikin about autocrossin it and was just wondering how the diffs hold up

i wouldnt worry about any part of the drive train unless it is already worn.
i did about eight autocrosses last year with my 84 500sec with 134k miles. all the drive train was original equipment never changed. no worries. i had no mechanical failures due to the autocross. my power steering went south and perhaps it was due to debris being stirred up or the belt too tight. but i would change the ps fluid and filter just to be safe. and i used hoosier slicks which generate some serious grip. benzes are fun to autocross but the classes don't generally favor us, imho. this year i will be using my 84 280e euro with eibach lowering springs and some kindof sticky street tire. tom w |
