Hi,
I am having some issues with my 1995 Starmarked wagon (50K).
Recently, the leveling system was failing to keep the car level. I had four 17" AMGs with tyres in the back [for the 500... ] and the car sat noticeably lower at the rear.
The dealer made some adjustments. It appears that he only adjusted the level controller rod while placing load in the back.
Now the car rides literally like a boat. It never was designed to be a BMW, but I owned a 300TE for 30K miles and never did the car show so little road feel. Squat, yaw and dive have increased tangibly since the service visit. It literally wallows around corners and has lost steering feel (tyres are pilot XGTZ4s-highly communicative).
Finally, both rear struts and pressure reservoirs were recently replaced.
I dont want to take the car back to the dealer yet, since he doesnt appear understand the way it should be.
Any ideas as to what is going on????
Many thanks in advance
farrukh

First: make sure your AMG wheels/tires have the same diameter as the stock 195/65R15 tires, which is about 25-inches in diameter. If you are going to primarly use these new AMG wheel/tire combo, go ahead and adjust with the AMG combo on.

Second: always adjust the self-levelling with all four wheels supported via an alignment rack. Do NOT use a lift.

Three: vehicle should be empty except for a full tank of gas, and spare.

Four: Make sure the bracket that is attached to the self-levelling rod to the swaybar is tight.

Five: Adjust the rod so that the inner-most hole of the valve-lever's is aligned with the a hole/depression on the valve-body. This is the NEUTRAL position. Use a small drift, allen key, or wire to do this.

Six: verify that this is the Neutral position by adding 100-lbs of weight to the rear (I use 150-lbs since I have stiffer springs), start the car, and see if it rises. You should be able to see the valve-lever deflected to the fill position. Adjust as necessary.

Seven: tighten adjustment rod, and take it for a test drive, without the weight in the rear. Visibly check that the lever is still in the NEUTRAL position after a spirited testdrive.

Good luck,
:-) neil
