For those of you who've lowered your E500/500Es, which springs did you go for (AMG, RENNTech, Lorinser, Brabus, Eibach, H&R)? What was the total drop front and rear? Any rear camber problems?

Many thanks!

Get in touch with some of the less-frequent-visiting members that responded to the Roll Call post; there are several that have done suspension mods that can offer advice. Definitely make sure you get all the opinions before you jump...you already have a very nice handling car, and you don't want to screw that up (I know you know, but I just wanted to punctuate the point a bit. Ahem.)

You may not be soliciting opinions, but what the Hell: I vote AMG full setup, if cost be no option. I'd retain the adaptive rear hydo suspension regardless. I wouldn't do just springs, IMHO. Alain? Lou N? MBDoc?

From a previous post

Dean, I have a 92 500E that I lowered. I think the stock springs have a sufficient rate for any use that includes road use. The later models seem to have softer rate springs (based on my seat of the pants feel in 94 E500's with the same size and brand of tire). If you go to shorter and higher rate springs you will probably find the front shocks are underdampened. My solution was the RennTech front bar, stock springs shortened 0.5" in front 0.75" in back and the one nub spring cups. This resulted in 1.25" lower front and 1.5" in back. I still feel that mine needs better front shocks. I plan to replace with some double adj. Koni units. I run 9.0" X17 fronts with 255/40's and 10"X17 rears with 285/40's with no problems rubbing. This is about as low as you can go without changing suspension mount points or you induce bump steer. Ihave also converted to a solid link rear suspension. This was the single best modification that I did. It allows complete adjustability of suspension alignment and control at high cornering loads. G-analyst results on a 200' d skidpad were 0.96 / 0.97 L/R

Michael,

What does the "full AMG setup" entail?

PMG (www.performances.com) quoted me $2824 for the lowering kit which they claim allows the use of the hydraulic rears.

Renntech's kit, which I understand allows the use of the hydraulics as well runs $1610 including the rear adjustable camber and toe bushings. A little less with dealers discount.

I want to drop the rears a bit more than the front as I find the car a bit raked:

The rears could definitely use some lowering:

The pics I've seen of the AMG set up though is a bit too low, I think, for less than perfect road conditions.

Thanks!

my set up

Hey rain on my 93 500E. Im running the stock springs.
Which have a pretty good asrping rate. I just installed a no#2 spirng pad in front it had #4 pads on there stock.
With koni ajustables in front Stock hydroneumatic in the rear with #1 pring pads instead of of 3s and you can aslo playwith the leveling valve. Rem lengthing the rod lowers the rear. Email me i'll send you my pic of how myt car looks. Im still runnign the stock 16 in wheels i need to save my $ for the wheel upgrade.
