I just completed a sportline install, well almost. I used H&R springs instead of sportline ones, everthing else is sportline. Making a long story short I had the springs installed prior to the swaybars. Anyway now after the swaybar installation my front suspension has risen almost an .5-1.0 inch. Did I do something wrong?

First off, what car is this on?

Secondly, what spring-pad thickness are you using front & rear?

Third: H&R and SportLine springs and the spring-pad takes about 1-2 months to settle-in.

Best of luck,

I installed the combo on my 1987 300E project car. The pad thickness is one bump all around. I really hope it settles. It looks bad again. The handling is great to say the least. Components include:

Bilsteins shocks: HD
H&R springs:
17X7.5 Intras: el cheapo strikes again Kumho 215/45/17
Sportline swaybars: and new bushings
Installated electrical fan: removed the clutch type
Replaced all worn suspension links in the rear: need K-MAC
Now to upgrade the car stereo!

So you put in new sway bar and it raised the car up ?
You use the Original spring pads right ?
That is wired !
Anyone could tell me why ?
then I could just rasie the car by puting some sportline sway bars on.
Thank yoou for your time.

Thanks... Yeah, it does sound strange to me.

Please do let me know. I am very interested in raise my car's ride height as I am already using the 3rd level pads..

Well after a really short night. I installed the Bilsteins only just for kicks and....... my 300TE has 3/4 inch more clearance than before the new struts. I didn't install the (sportline)swaybar because it was smaller than the one installed. Someone had already installed a huge swaybar on my 300TE before I purchased it.:)

Measure the Sportline bar between where it crosses the engine bay, and it should be 30mm vs. 27mm for the 300TE.

Even though the Sportline bar is thinner at the curves by the lower-control arms it *is* a stronger bar than the standard 300TE.

Best of luck,

Ride Height

How can changing the shocks actually raise the ride height?

Hi, everyone.
Sounds strange to me. How could "shocks" rasie the ride height of the car when you are using H&R and 8mmm pads ?
Sway bars and Shocks shouldn't rasie the ride height of the car ?
I just got some eibach springs install and it raised the ride height of the car beacuse the eibach springs are longer then the H&R.
Any inputs from an expert ? MB DOC ?
Pete regards
PS I think all the eibach ( springs and Sway bars are MB sportline stuff) I am 97% sure. Springs has the same ride height, the thinkness of the sway bars are the same.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Pete

You might have read about my experience at the other mailing list.

This was what exactly happened to me the last time i change my shocks. I know its not supposed to be that way but thats what happened!

The only explanation i can think of is that the bilstein exerts a pretty strong upward force on the ca, ie they tend to extend themselve to the fullest with considerable force so that might raised the car ride height.

Theoretically, this should not be the case though... shocks are just meant to dampen any movement and oscillations.

ke6dcj 06-28-2001 08:22 PM

The Bilstein "Sport" shocks don't compress nearly as much as the SACHS (MB's OEM) SportLine shock or the Bilstein "Heavy Duty" and "Comforts".

Hope that helps,
:-) neil

This is strange I have been driving the cars days now. And they both are higher than before. I still don't get it!
