has anyone tried both the bilstein hd and the sports shocks before?

Is the sports a much better buy? I am under the impression that their prices do not vary much.

what abt handling, ride comfort....?

I have the HD. My understanding is the sports are shorter since they are designed for shorter/lowering springs in mind. The HD are same height as the originals but with a stiffer ride.

Yes they are excellent.

I have Bilstien on my SLC at home, they are a very smooth running suspension system, also come at a decent cost. They arn't very pretty but boy do they work well, I also believe they come with 10 year warrantees.

Warranty correction: Unlimited warranty for as long as you own your vehicle...

How many type of skocks Bilsten make for W124? "Sports", "HD"? I saw one called "comfort" on some site? What are the differences? Will the "HD"/"comfort" work with the aftermarket lower spring
By the way, what are the pad size on a 89 stock W124 sedan?

HD=heavy duty
comfort and sports are self explanatory =)

the original that comes with the mercedes are comforts...
the heavy duty ones are stiffer than the comfort and so far they work with my lowered springs..

i have never tried the sports ones so i am soliciting opinions here but it seems that nobody can give me a direct comparision between the heavy duty and the sports...

Nobody can give me a direct comparison?

The comparisons have been made, but you are going to have to use the search function. there are a lot of threads where this topic has been discussed for the last 2 years. Members have stated in the past that Bilstein says HD and Sport use the same internal valving, but Sports are shorter shocks for cars that have been lowered. According to them, stiffness should be about the same, length of travel will be less on the Sport. Do a search for more info (Bilstein Sport key words yields multiple pages of threads), or go straight to the horses mouth and contact Bilstein directly at http://www.bilstein.com/contact.html .

thats the reply i was looking for. =)
i did not know that it has already been discussed and being quite new to this forum, i didnt know about the existence of a search function...

i will stick to the HD in this case. I am pretty satisfied with it and the sports ones are not really that common.

thanks
