Thanks Glen!
Your car looks spotless as well... I was wondering who'd be the lucky soul who'd buy that car. That was the one on ebay a while back, right?

Ricky,
The car looks very well with those wheels (looks nice without the wheels as well ). You still need to change the 500E badge to E500 badge or are you planning to do that as soon as you change the hood? What do you mean with Xenon lights? Do you have Xenon-like aftermarket bulbs installed? Nice car (like the SL); greetingz,

Thanks! : )
I'm still debating whether to change to the E500 badge or just debadge it altogether!
Regarding the Xenons, yes they are aftermarket Xenon HIDs. They come with ballasts and all. Not sure which brand though cause I got them with the lights installed. They have to be aimed really carefully though otherwise you end up blinding oncoming cars... I'll try to take a pic of them at night...

A gem of a car and thanks for posting pics. Can you share a little about that particular tire choice?
And,,,,yes where did you find rims for $200/ea. tks-fad fyi- This past Saturday in downtown SF, Ca, I ran into an MD that just purchased an outstanding Jet Black on Black '94 E500 from a collector. A spectacular machine with 8-hole MBZ chrome 18", Pilot Sports, lowered, and a host of goodies to get him to about 400hp, first gear start, exhaust, GPS anti-theft, 39k miles. This was a replacement for his beloved '92 500E Black Pearl/Black 52K miles, stolen from the golf range last November. Watch your 500E/E500s!!!!, I also have heard that in Europe they are favorites of auto thieves. -fad |

Mark: I got them from the local MB dealer/distributor. Commercial Motors Corp. Unfortunately, I'm all the way in Manila, The Philippines... I can give you their number if you want to try and see if they can drop ship you a set since they order them from Germany anyway.
In another post I mentioned that they tried changing the price on me after they arrived (they said they made a mistake) but fortunately for me, they made me sign a contract (it was called a Firm Offer) which requires me to forfeit my 50% deposit if I back out. Well, I reminded them that a contract binds two parties and that they have to keep their end of the bargain as well. In the end, they did. Even at the *new* price though, it was only about $250 per, shipped. -fad: Thanks for the compliments. In respect of the tires, I initially wanted to go with 245/45-17 Bridgestone Potenza S-03s but they didn't have it locally. The size is uncommon here. The widest Bridgestones available here (and they were only S-02s) were 225 or 215 if I remember right. The Dunlop Sport 9000s weren't available even in 235/45-17s at the moment. The wait was like a month or two. The FM 901s have a pattern similar to the Sport 9000s but has a center rib similar to the S-03s. I guess it boiled down to getting these ones and being able to install the wheels right away or spending twice the amount of money (exclusive of shipping) for the S-03s and waiting a month to get em from Tire Rack. Instant gratification won out in the end. The process wasn't too scientific I'm afraid but there weren't too many choices. I take solace in the fact that a lot of the Porsches here have them on. I guess they're as they come, locally... Having used the tires for several days, immediately noticeable was the decreased grip. My former tires were Dunlop W-10s (?) (which the FM 901s replace) 235/40-18s front and 275/35-18s rear. With a heavy foot (50% throttle or more) from a dead stop, the ASR light is on for most of 2nd gear (I didn't bother doing a manual 1st gear start after that) and the tires squeel like Fran Drescher on a bad night. Having said that, once it hooks though (either through patience and ASR doing its job or applying a lighter foot on the throttle) grip is pretty good, say 85-90% of the former tires, at speed. But the ride quality is much improved (say, like 20%?). I might end up putting them on a W210 wagon if I end up selling my Expedition in exchange. Sorry, a little too much detail, I realize... Rainmaker,
Yes, my car was listed on eBay but I didn't bid on it. I called the selling dealer directly and worked out a deal over the phone. I was lucky to be able to contact a list member who actually saw the car so I felt confident that the car was ok. So far I'm not disappointed. It has relatively high mileage but as an occasional use car it should be fine. |

The gaps between the rear wheels on your car, are bigger than mine. Anyone else wish to comment? Are mine too low or yours to high? Do you have 245/45/17s on your car? The gaps on my car are 1 1/2" to 2".

235/45-17s due to the reasons explained above.
