Dear all.
I have seen a couple of threads regaring 400E and 500E owner enlarging their factory air box for increase of airflow.I was wondering if some 300E owner or someone could do the same mod for the M104 airbox? I think I have seen something similar for from Carlsson for the M104 engine. However the picture is no longer available on carlsson's offical website. |

The M104 engine saw duty in a lot of the Mercedes line-up, hence there are a lot of factory boxes that will fit, but space is the problem.
The airbox in the S-class OR the airbox from a C36 would be optimal, but it won't fit without relocating the winshield-washer resevoir, and going to a smaller coolant-recovery tank. If you remove the nozzle that extends out of the airbox and into the back of the right headlamp, you'll get better airflow, but you lose the ram-air effect AND you breath-in hotter air from the engine compartment, unless you make a heat-shield that protects the air-box from the hot-air generated by the exhaust manifold AND the viscous fan. Or you can run a heat resistant 3-inch tubing bypassing the airbox and a conical K&N air-filter to somwhere below the front bumper. Best of luck, and let us know what you do. Thanks, :-) neil |
