190e Amg

I have a lead on this car for under $1000. Owner says it is not running and he does not know any history on it. VIN is WDBDA24DXFF126183. What do you think? I know nothing about these, but am pretty familiar with the 123 diesels. If nothing else I want the wheels for my car. I would have to make a decision soon. Is this car worth anything?

Probably not worth much, but that depends on the AMG pedigree. I just spent the last week analyzing another 190E AMG that I came across; this car might be fun to own.

I'll help you analyze it if you can answer some questions about it; if you want to buy it, it's yours. If you want to pass, I'd might be interested - depending on the results of the investigation.

I had a friend in 1987 who had a 190E AMG, and since then I've always wanted to find another one.

For the record, I don't think those wheels have the proper offset for a w123.

Being the most affordable, it seems that a lot of 190E got the "AMG" tuning treatment back in the 80's. That "treatment" in the US typically did not involve any engine work, although it was available. Most seem to sport the bodykit, wheels, interior trim and suspension pieces.

If you are going to by a W201/190E then look for a 2.3-16V, 2.5-16V engine and if you're really lucky maybe an EVO or EVO II.

What you're looking at may just have a body kit.

Get some better pix of the wheels as they may be worth the $1000.00 if they are original AMG Penta wheels manufactured by ATS !!

Not positive, but don't remember any W201 AMG's...other then the very rare 190-3.2 ( bored out M103-12V)

The factory was making the high performance 4 cylinder 16valve engines.

Vey lucky indeed, since none were sold by MBUSA . . . and unofficially there's a handful of 2.5-16 cars imported into the US and only one authentic Evolution II.

AMG did tune the early M102 8 valve 190E, upping the HP to about 150 bhp in the US spec engine and 160 bhp for the non-US engines.

bought an amg complete head with cam + headers + exhaust out of amg germany in the mid eighties and installed on a customer's 190e plain jane ~~~ did the body kit, 16" amg wheels, and they wanted it painted candy apple red ~~~ $33k bill to a pro ballplayer

couldn't hold candle to a 190 16v
