Pre m103/104 engine swap planning. Need help/ideas/warnings/suggestions.

Hi!

From my previous thread about dropping a m103/104 in my w201 with om602 turbodiesel, on a second thought I'm better off buying a gasser w201 and using that car for the swap, thus saving the rare w201.128.

What I plan to do is:

Car: Look for a 190e ('91, '92 preferably) in great condition. Finding a 190e 2.6, or 16v is almost impossible in my country. Here in europe people like mostly small engined cars. Even a 2.0l gasser is considered a large engine.

Engine: Look for a 3.0l 6 cyl. What do you people think, am I better off with the m103 or m104? From my reading I like the durability of the m103 but the power of the m104. Also, from I readings, I understand that wiring wise the m103 is simpler than the m104. What about the first series of the m104 with mechanical injection, are they as difficult to sort out the wiring?

Transmission: I want to stay manual, but I think it's going to be hard. I read that the 16v is a bolt on but need to use the 2.6 flywheel. The problem is, as I said before, I doubt I'll be able to find a 2.6 or 16v parts in the junk yards as they're very rare.

Costs.

I predict the costs to be about the same as the costs of selling my current car.

Car: A 190e is quite cheap, though I don't know how hard it'll be to find one in great condition and with a working a/c. If I can find a 190e 2.6 that would be the best.

Engine: I predict it will be cheap, dirt cheap. Junk yards don't know what to do with these engines as no one wants them, except me . For the they're just large door blocks.

Trans: This might be cheap as well, as people over here prefer automatics over manuals.

So, I need help with the stuff mentioned above, before I go out and start looking for a 190e, engine and trans.

Thanks a lot!

Deni
