The one at the bottom talks about a '78 sl with a 396 chebby in it. It took a professional shop "ten months to complete, working 40 to 50 hours a week". the cost was $45,000.

This proves my point a thousand times over.

There was a second article detailing the work to install a small block ford (which should be easier than a chebby since it is narrower and the distributor is on the front of the motor). That fellow has taken two years on it!

Yes, but that car is tubbed, show quality and just simply ridiculous for street use. It's just a pro-street show car. You caould spend the same money to restore it to stock if it needed that much work. The engine conversion itself did not involve a whole lot of engineering. This guy had a different goal. If he were to have left the car all stock except for the engine, trans, and a stock width rear end, and built it for the street, it would have cost him a $#it load less money.

I know a guy who restored a 71 Monte Carlo and tubbed it like that and put in a stock big block Chevy and it still cost him 70k to build.

If you have a stock, spare chevy engine/trans and only need to fabricate exhaust, mounts, and driveshaft, for the Mercedes you could do it over a weekend, for less than $2000.00 and drive it to work every day of the week.

So why would you post it up as proof of your contention?

So if it is so simple, post up an example of someone who has one.

Here's another...What do you really think it took to do this job? This is how my 300CD is set up the same as far as outward stock stance, appearance is concerned. I had to do a few more things in order to put in the T-56 Six speed, and the rear end. Basically a few bolt on type adapters had to be custom made. (Engine mounts are simply adapters that go from the Chevy V8 mountings to the Mercedes mounting abbreviations.) The transmission crossmember had to be moved, and the driveshaft length needed both altering, an a yolk change. Aside from that, the remainder of the parts are simply off the shelf aftermarket and stock parts for various Chevy vehicles. As I said, 62-67 Nova oil pan, and pick-up. The headers are block hugger 1980's Camaro headers, Vette short style water pump, and a few other items from the GM, Mercedes, and aftermarket companies shelves.

People also implant V8 engines from Sherman tanks and 12 cylinder PT boat engines into all sorts of vehicles. What's the big deal? Eventually it just gets silly.

One of my favorites was a Rolls Royce Merlin into a Rolls Royce Car.

Jay built a Rolls with an aircraft engine of something like 27 liters displacement. There was an article in Road and Track about five years ago I estimate. It looked pretty cool. IIRC it had a polished aluminum body....kindof a t rex version of the lotus seven!

Because I moved down to North Carolina in mid September, and all but one of my vehicles are still sitting up there until I get time and means to transport or drive each one down here. I've never taken any pics of the car to date. I'll be flying up there sometime soon, and driving one back while towing another on a tow dolley. Then it will be spring before I fly up there again. I'll get some pics of it when I go up there in the upcoming trip. The car is not my favorite, or most important though, so it will stay there 'til I've gotten the more important ones down here to North Carolina. My vehicles are safe, in a climate controlled building I have owned for years up in Ct. so it's not a rush to bring any of the toys down.

In September I drove down with Josie, my little Miniature Dacshund, in my 88 560 SEC AMG, EURO. With just a car load of items and haven't been back to Connecticut since. I have no pics of the CD in the computer though.
