What is needed to make a 300 CE manual?
I am looking to make my 89 300 CE manual. Will the pedal assembly and manual transmission from 190E work for a conversion?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this would be direct bolt-in? The only possible issue I can think of would be driveshaft length, and even that should be pretty easy to get around if you know a good shop. Are you even close to me (Durham, CT)? Brian

Yeah.....that could be a problem.
A five speed 300E, either 1986 (700+ cars imported into US) or 1988 (approx 300 cars) will come up every now and then on ebay or Craigslist, maybe 2 or 3 or 4 every year across the country. I look for them....it's a sickness of mine. Either year would work for your car. If you want to do it correctly, get a whole car and not just the bits and pieces assembled as a "kit". I took that piece of advice from Larry Bible and I think he was very right. Brian

I was told the 190e's manual are more plentiful and should work

I really don't know if it would or not.
The input shaft length is important and varies from one manual to the next. For example, the early 90's 300SL with the 5-speed has a different shaft length than the one I have. But I don't know about a 190. Go to 190revolution.net and ask those guys. Many of them have swapped M103 and M104 engines into their cars....I'll be they can give you an answer. Someone there has probably done it. There is so much info available on a manual shift transplant. The internet is a wonderful thing. Short shift modification, stiffer more durable clutches, shifter bearings milled from brass for a crisper feel, flywheel mods to get an M104 and a five speed together, etc etc. How great would a 1995 E320 convertible be with a 5-speed and a Turbotechnics turbo kit?!? I believe that all the parts for this conversion in a 190e would bolt into the 300ce.
I don't know this from experience though. Tom W
