Hello everyone,
This is my first post on this forum. My father just bought a 1993 500SEL and I have a Jeep myself and use a forum very similar to this and I believe it is the most usefull tool in my house. So by saying that, I would like to know of any experiences people have had with this type of car. I would like to put in a performance ECU (I heard RennTech makes one) and also some sort of Intake system (K&N possibily). Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Performance Ups

Hey dude!! Thats the exact car I want to get right now. How much did you pay for it? How many miles?

Anyways, in terms of performance, the best things I have found are RennTech. They make a great upgrade chip (10HP, 15 Torque) and a really nice intake kit (carbon fiber intake boxes, dual K&N filters included; same performace upgrade). So with both of them, you can get to 345 horsepower or so

The other best MODs I have found are new AMG rims, new tires, and lowering it. Clear headlights, OEM HID Light kits, clear tails, tinted windows. Etc. ENJOY!

Yea...My friend is a dealer so he got us a great deal. I got it for $22,900 and it has 80,000 miles one it. Black on pomado (Dark Tan) leather. I would definitly like to do that EPROM and the intake only problem is the cost. Price from Renntech is $950 for the intake and $650 for the EPROM. Do you know of any place I can get these for less expensive?

I don't know what you can do, but congrats ont he purchase.

I love the W140's.

I saw a black one today, and all I can say is you definately have to do the following cosmetic mod if it is not already done.

The strip under the tail lights, that houses the reverse lights has to be color matched ot the body with only the reverse lights showing in it. It makes the rear of the car look really sweet.

Post some pics of the car if you get a chance to.

As regards enhancing the car's performance, here are some options:
1.) Replace the EPROM chip with one from a tuner, such as Precision Auto Design. Loren cut me a deal, I think I paid $200 for the chip. # is 800-222-7253 X 304
2.) Install K&N filters. I'd do this at the same time as the chip, as each requires a re-set of the LH injection computer (which you do when you remove the LH module from the CAN in order to install the EPROM)
3.) Forget the air box, unless you're buying it for the looks. I've heard again and again that it's a waste of money
4.) Wheels/tires-maybe consider a +1 or +2 install (17" or 18"), but be advised you'll bring in a bit more ride harshness...primarily an aesthetic mod

Best of luck with the car! Oh, and BTW check and see if the distributor caps & rotors have ever been replaced, as they've been upgraded since your car was new and are known to crack & cause poor idling.

Will post pics ASAP.

I think I will do the eprom and probably throw some K&N drop ins in to it cause there is no way I am spending $950 for the carbon fiber. Still though, I'm sure you guys know of places where I can get these renntech parts for cheaper????

As to our knowing of a cheaper source to find RennTECH parts..ummm, no.

RennTECH is the only retailer of their parts, so if you want it, you pay BIG for it.

True, if you want Renntech, you pay a price. But the owner/founder practically invented AMG!! It is just about the most respected tuner I know in my circles. We all hold Renntech to be the gods of speed. I mean...an E-class 0-60 in 3 Seconds????? You have to love them....mmmmmm....Renntech....
