Hello again, Listers...
Well the front bar and parts are on order but my next question of interchange are the rear brakes. Appears not to be as simple as bolting 400Es on the front and drive away.

I have been looking for 400E rear calipers to match the fronts and have been offered some 500E rears. After doing some checking it looks as though the rear carrier is the same, 400E and 500E, so caliper placement is the same. They both use the same calipers but call for different rotors. Only reason I can see is that the internal cooling slots are directional unless someone knows different. If that would be the case then folks with 400Es could also use the better cooling of the 500E rotors. Please chime in and throw some wisdom in this direction so we all may benefit!

Thanks guys,
TobiasMB

92 400e rear vented discs & calipers bolted right on to my 86 16valve 190. (I did remove the factory dust shield first)

With 92 400e brakes all around my 16v,,,,,,
HAWK "BLUE" pads, stainless hoses & ATE super blue fluid, ,
I know without a doubt that I have the best working brakes of any car in my group at the track.

The only guy I can not "out brake" on the track is my dad. There are two reasons for this.

#1- he also races a mercedes, it is a 190 2.6 with about the same brake set up I have.

#2-he is totally nuts!!!

I think the 500e rotors are a little larger & the calipers wider, but am not sure. I can look the stuff up in a MBZ TDM (technical data manual) & give you some dimensions tommorrow.

500E brakes?

Can 500E rotors and calipers simply be bolted on? Are the mounting points the same as on the 16V/400E? Are any mods needed besides removing the dust shields and bigger rims?

16Vs have more than adequate brakes for street, but a little more is always nicer !

Sorry it took so long to reply, guys. My ISP service has been getting worse & worse, so I finally called them up & had them disconnect me!....I'm temporarily "borrowing" my bud's AOL account, and should have cable service on thursday......

....Anyhow, here are some REAR brake specs for a 124.036(500e)
24mm thick, 278mm diameter

rear caliper is an ATE 38 fixed
I hope this helps.
