M116/117 Gilmer belt drive conversion
Hey all,
im new to this forum, and it seems like there is alot of help from everyone. so i have a question. Has anyone attempted in changing a m116/117 engine belt system to a gilmer belt drive? i am looking at supercharging my 420 and converting to a gilmer belt drive. if anyone can help, it would be much appreciated. |

If I'm remembering correctly, a Gilmer Belt is similar to a normal drive belt, but it has 'chunks' taken out across the belt at regular intervals (it's the best way I can think of to describe it).
These 'chunks' match up to the rubber-coated cog driving the supercharger, it makes for a more precise way of driving a supercharger as there's little chance of the belt slipping as the cog meshes with the belt with very tight tolerances.

yeah the belt is just a straight cut toothed belt. it is the main kind of belt you see the supercharged drag cars or hot rods having... it produces a whirring/whining noise due to the straight cuts

I thought maybe that's what it was. I've seen those. Seems much more precise. I had a supercharged Thunderbird once upon a time, but I believe that one just had a smooth belt.
