AMG Challenge?

I was wondering if anyone here has ever been to the AMG Challenge? I got an invitation yesterday. It seems like it would be a blast. A great chance to get to drive a variety of high performance MBs.

Have you ever been before or is this your first time? You'll have to tell us all about it. It sounds like it would be a blast.

I've been to several of MB's On-Track events over the years, most recently at Pocono in 2006. On-Track is basically the same as the Challenge, but it's reserved for MBUSA, and MB dealership employees. To put it mildly, it's a
%#$*ing blast!!! Imagine pulling out of the pits and going full throttle all the way around turns one and two (passing is allowed on the right). Then, get on the brakes with both feet as hard as you can, hang a hard left, and tear through the road course section (no passing is allowed on this part of the track). Re-enter the main track at the exit of pit road and do it all over again. Of course, this follows some instruction from professional drivers. I ran about twenty five laps in a C55, E55, and an SL55.

Then there's the precision driving competition. SLK's were the weapon of choice for this timed event. This was almost as much fun as the high-banks.

My advice, spend the money, it's worth it.

Thanks. You've painted a very enticing picture. Sounds like a great place to work.

My friend that has gone to about six of these events said that the $1295 is worth it because you will ruin a set of tires and a set of brakes which probably cost more than $1295. Plus you can speed legally and you dont have to beat up your own car. I feel the same way, it's still hard to swing $1295, but most likely worth it.

I have not done it yet, but my dad has, and he says its awesome.

He said he shredded a set of tires on an SL going around the track, and said he would do it again in a heartbeat.

I've also heard friends say that racing your car (assuming you have a new car) will void the warranty, so this way you can enjoy the thrill of it without worrying about that.

My old boss tracked his E55 when it was new, but has no time to track his CLS63.

That never voided the warranty...

A CLS63?! Niiice. I think I saw once of those pass me the other day. I'm not sure, though. It was going too fast.

Personally, I'd rather take my own cars out, but that's just me!
