Oil-level warning light

Hello all,

I had my MB 190E since it came out. I have been very religious in maintaining it. I do 3000 mile oil changes very religiously. In the last three or so months I have noticed the oil-level lamp comes on after about 1800 - 2000 miles after the oil change. At this point it takes up about quart to quart-and-half oil. I use Quaker State brand. Is this normal? I don't see any visible leaks but it might be internal. Any thoughts? Please pardon my ignorance about car engines.

Thanks
Asim

What year? How many miles? What engine? You may need new seals or a valve job. Do you see any smoke coming out of the exhaust?

Red face Choices...

Most Mercedes with high miles will consume "some" oil. If you want to reduce the amount of consumption and you going to keep the car for a while, you probably need the seals replaced (+/- $300) or a valve job (+/- $1500, depending where you live). If you don't mind adding oil and your car is running fine, don't do it. Do a search on the topic, there are many different opinions on the subject...

re:oil light

hi,
I just got my 87' 300e and I have noticed the oil light coming on and off sporadically, I checked the level of the oil with the dipstick however, and that seems to be fine. If yours does the same I would be prone to think that we both have problems with our oil level sensors instead of oil levels themselves.
