SF Bay Area Saturday 8/18/01 (830am) Invite

INVITE TO: SF Bay Area Mercedesshop folks Sat 8/18- - - Let's get together on Saturday 8/18 morning

FOR: Informal Meet & Greet/Chat, View MB's, Coffee, Breakfast?, Drive?

START: 830am-930am (get the old bones up early for some fun before traffic starts)

WHERE: Starbuck's @ 2132 Chestnut Street in SF
(in the Marina District of SF between Pierce and Scott across from the Century 21 movie house)

DIRECTIONS: Suggest pulling Yahoo Maps for directions

STREET PARKING: SF parking is often non-existent, however- an 830am arrival would provide ample street parking

MORE DETAILS: I don't imagine that there are more than 10-15 Mercedesshop types in the NCal/ SF Bay Area, so it'll be a close group. Stop by at least to introduce yourself and say "hello". I'll have my E500 Black Pearl/Black and am looking forward to meeting and seeing our other MBs (new/vintage/hot-rod/SUV,etc). Hopefully, we can see a host of really nice MBs: run.exe, cy, e500man, dave del rosso, revbound, EricH, etc.

ACTION: ...oh, and it would be great if those planning to visit, would post a response here indicating such and what MB we'll be seeing.

NOTE: this is purely a get together of casual enthusiasts and not some MB, MBCA, MB-type Club, SCCA, or any sect oriented similarly affiliated ulterior motive recruiting event....just a casual get together! Invite other MB owners to join us.

CONTACT: If needed, I can be paged at 415-207-1443 or during the weekday phoned at work @ 415-765-2609.

tks-fad

P.S. Sorry E500man, I took the liberty to post the invite today since I didn't see one originating from you yet.

Fad,

Thanks for setting up the invite. How about we meet at Fort Point, under the bridge? Chestnut will be pretty difficult to park so many cars who will come out???

Coffee and cars sounds like a great way to start the weekend. I will be in the Bay Area, from So CA, and plan to attend. Parking will be a major problem?

wanna hook up with the benzsport crew?

We're having a small gtg that day too. Since you guys are meeting eariler than us if you guys want to stop by and chew the fat with us that would be great.

We plan on meeting around 12 - 1pm by top of the hill SF/DC

Here's more nfo on it. It would be sweet to see both mercedesshop and benzsport cars all together.

We'll be mostly W202s.

Cripes! How About A Plan?

One faction wants to get it on at the Starbucks on Chestnut, another at Ft. Point, and a totally other faction wants to meet at the grave of Steven Matthew David. This is the first I've heard of any Bay Area meet, and that was courtesy of FAD on Tech Help.

Have you dudes heard of Open Discussion? It's all the rage... Try posting general info material there so we can all be in on this, unless you don't want any diesels there...

And 8:30AM? Are you freakin' serious? I live in Santa Rosa, so don't expect to see my smilin' face at this coffee klatch that early.

Let me know when you boys plan a wine country run, and I'll be all to pleased to "host"...

E500man- great suggestion on meeting at Fort Point and I'm totally flexible on SF location...before we edit/ change the location- for your consideration though...these positives:

I was not anticipating a large show of MB's (5-10), that early (830am)--- there will be tons of parking at that time, Starbuck's has coffee, places to sit outside, & something sweet (usually eye-candy female types spandex'd out after their morning workout- if you're into that), if Starbuck's isn't strong enough- Peet's is 1/2 block away. Also it a pretty nice area, easily located by Yahoo Mapping, and there's always the generally friendly foot traffic around to chat with as well.

also, ....was thinking that SF Bay Area that early will probably be a bit cold and foggy (esp. by Fort Point),,,and I'm not too fond of wiping my car down constantly (the E500 only see duty about once a month). I do see that the value of easy parking and big space at Fort Point...so, in the event the MB gathering grows on Sat AM, we can be flexible and move to Fort Point, most appropriately and pronto.

Longston: It would be great to meet and greet you, sorry for the planned early start to this ...but Bay Area traffic, SF non-existent parking, and our busy lives are generally prohibitive for too late a start....I was thinking that those truly interested will be there regardless of start time and that the positives of an early meet outweigh the alternative. Oh, I'll be coming from San Jose on Saturday myself(~45miles) so, it'll be a really really early start for me. We'll definitely do a Wine Country/Napa run (sooner than later- I appreciate the generous invite and kind offer of hospitality, speaking for the group, we'll take you up on your offer). Isn't Santa Rosa only 30 minutes from SF (no traffic)? Surely you will be able to rise and shine by 730am, put a cap on, & hop on your horse to join us?

Nokia8860: Thanks for the invite, as time permits, we'll try to make it over to see you, but please don't be disappointed if not too many other than W202s stop by since people may have other plans and responsibilities later Saturday. I, myself, will do my best to stop by (90% probability). I'll pull up the info and will be in the E500.

Please note that Benzsport's gtg on Sat 12-1pm in South San Francisco is an independant group from our SF 830am meet, however, E500man and myself's meet is one in the same. Yes, E500man and -fad's Sat. am meet is at the same place. As of this post, it's happening at Starbuck's on Chestnut Street in SF.

Mparker: Great to hear of your visit, parking will be NO PROBLEMO at a prompt 830am arrival at Starbucks. Please read the all the following replies to this post, since we MAY move meeting to Fort Point in the event that yes responses here become too numerous.

God Bless Steven Matthew David- he similar to Henry Ford -believed that every household within radiowave distance should have a Steel Taiwanese Firenze 10-speed in the driveway (as long as it was crimson or fire mist blue!

E500man, Starbuck's to start; Fort Point if it gets too crowded? Let's start simple and straightforward (where there's coffee/sugar/and creme) then move if it gets too big.

tks-fad

I live exactly 56.2 miles from Marina Green. To get there in 30 minutes would require a constant speed of 112.4 MPH. The rated top speed on an '82 300SD is only 104 MPH, and my speedometer only goes to 85 MPH...

...in my younger days (2-3 years ago), if my memory serves me accurately, I made it to Santa Rosa City limits in +/- 30 minutes (really) maintaining a constant speed "range" of 55-80mph (CHP presence through Marin was a reality). I recall that the drive didn't have any traffic to speak of, there were tons of high end luxury cruisers around, and it was a really enjoyable ride too.

Is SRosa really that far?
They must have moved it, or one of our speedos is/was not calibrated accurately....Seriously- I'm sure your calc's and mileages are right on the money.

It would be great if you can make it safely on Sat morning within the 830a-930a window without CHP interaction/ escort. If not, we'll do a Wine Country drive before summer ends (I'm in, if no one else will be).

Also, I'm familiar with planning & executing events to include large groups of free-willed individually-minded persons in a non-mandatory uncontrolled environment...so I've posted the initial parameters with simplicity as a priority.

Thanks again for the invite, we'll surely get together soon.

Question

Makes me kinda wonder where everyone was when I went to SF. I know Nokia was in Europe somewhere. But the rest of you... hrm.

Guys,

I'd love to meet with all of you, especially to all the nice w202 and the 500E/E500. However, I will not be able to make it. Can I count on a wine country get together sometime before summer ends, as somebody suggested?

Yes vutown, wine country is definitely going to happen.

Too bad you can't make it this Sat morning, if run.exe (Scott Shell are you out there???) attends, we may be honored to see one of those monster 50 ft.+++ 500e burnouts. I'll jump in front of the SFPD so you can make a quick get away or I will be your mechanic and vouch that the throttle linkage is on a European Recall Campaign! Scott, by the way, did you ever get that dying/limp mode in the slight L/R turn issue addressed? Hope so, and hope you can drop by on Sat. morning.

Also, all you 500e/e500's in N Cal, get the old bones moving early and please stop by (you know whom you are).

MB meeting in SF

Fad,

I will attend with my E320 Coupe if not just to see 500E burn out.
