m104 turbo project (c280)

the build is coming along heres a run down ive were im up to and what ive done.
-parts
stainless 6>1 manifold,
t3/t4 internally gated turbo,
greedy emanage piggyback ecu
310cc injectors
innovative lc1 wideband o2 sensor for tuning
boost guage
blitz blow off valve
front mount intercooler (been cut and modified to fit)
boost piping 2" from turbo to intercooler and then 2 1/2" from intercooler to plenum.
Exhaust system: 2 1/2" down pipe going to a 3" exhaust thru a 3" center muffler, then splits into two 2 1/4" pipes under the diff area (to keep it tucked up for ground clearance) into a twin rear muffler.
factory manual transmission fitted with a light weight single mass flywheel with a new solid center clutch, which appears to be getting the power to the ground at the moment
lower ratio rear diff 3.27.

standard internals (i have a spare m104 engine and plan on testing this one to the limit)
currently running it at about 7psi and are planning to turn it up to 10+ psi soon but i need more fuel, its currently running leaner than i like up top at 7psi, im going to either go for a higher fuel pressure regulator or bigger injectors (or maby both) for higher boost

running pritty sweet on 7psi and pulling reasonably well, lights up the 265s in first gear just under acceleration in the dry and chirps and wiggles around a bit when i grab second.

so to the pics:

yes i know its dirty and has black fuel smoke around the rear bumper from when ive been tuning it and running to rich, but hey ive cleaned it since the photo shoot if that makes it ok :D

plz post some pics of ur I/C showing how its fit and if poss pics of it when it was still not on the car to see its size

c280nz 05-25-2008 08:35 AM

hello jay.
i dont have any pics with it out of the car so il have to take the bumper off and take a pic and i will also measure it for you and put up sizes.
thanks from logan

man dont go taking anything off for me here:), just try and take as many pics as u can from diff points
you can e-mail them to me at : jayrasheed@gmail.com if you want

What kind of t3/t4 is that?

c280nz 05-27-2008 02:31 AM

i cant remember i bought it ages ago, it isnt a guinuine garrett, it is a copy.
ar.63 hot side, (exhaust wheel)
.7 cold side (compressor)

Turbo E320 05-27-2008 03:03 AM

so its an ebay turbo? neat. I think i am going to switch my hy35 with some type of t3 super 60.

Lots of dudes around my area run ebay turbos. All you do is run some oil through them and check the wastegate before you install it and your fine.

Stick with the holset, all the no name china turbos on ebay are junk.

Turbo E320 06-08-2008 11:52 PM

I bought a real garrett t3/60-1 .7/.63. Polished it up a bit on a boring hot day but i have to do a lot of refitting because its so much smaller. My car is setup for 400hp but with a quick injector change 500 with no head trouble will be fine.

that intercooler is about the same size as myne. but i chopped and bent into that front bumper support slightly to get it to sit up higher inside my bumper,
what is ur setup for 400hp? the 310cc injectors i am using are to small even for 8psi, at standard fuel pressure, and i would need to up fuel pressure to get adequate fuel at 8psi, or if i plan on going up to 10psi need 400cc+ injectors. and thats with my smaller 2.8ltr capacity

A bosch/nuespeed/audi 5 bar fpr is 80 bucks, installs with a simple C-clip and is good over 12 psi with 310cc injectors. I know you can make 400hp with 310cc's on a 6 cyl.

You guys throw horsepower numbers around like they mean nothing....and without tuning on a dyno, they are just a number that somebody pulls out of their mind !!!

More fuel, larger injectors, rising rate fuel regulators still do not accomplish what is need to make power and keep the engine together....

Without an enrichment control and knowing how to develop the fuel map, you're just wasting time and money...

Solve the enrichment control first and your stock components will work just fine....

Turbo E320 06-09-2008 07:44 PM

All my info comes from Blown_M104 with the same setup only supercharged making almost 400 at the crank. My info came from him when i bombarded him with questions a while back.

Also c280nz has eManage so hes got more than enough tuning capability. Blown-M104 did it all with a SAFC.

JayRash 06-10-2008 06:48 AM

With all respect to you guys, but i side strongly with ED here and i do take what he advises seriously. I mean just see for how long he has been running his setup trouble free, bet you its longer than any of us here. think of it, for his setup to properly work he must have the tune perfect, just due to improper fuel enrichment and it is just slight off in my case i have hit all kinds of trouble. His, lets say good enough tune, is making him 310 my be 320 hp (fly wheel) now with the 24 valve head and the higher compression i say on 8psi 340 is do able wring the tune and maybe 350 hp ( pushing figures). And with compression over 10 to 1 I really doubt we can run over 8 psi at least with long term reliability accounted for. Not meaning to break any one’s wings here, for I would love to be proven wrong guys. I want my turbo setup to work but sofar all its been is short blasts of fun and long garage stops, least of my troubles is the heat and over heating.
Once again good luck to all who go the charged way :)

Turbo E320 06-11-2008 01:39 AM

Hate to sound indignant here but the car i was talking about is running 12psi with over 178000 miles, probably more now since it is a daily driver. Its an all stock engine and i reread the thread and it makes over 400hp at .7 bar. So think with a turbo you could figure in 10-20 more horses because of power loss due to his belt driven supercharger. I havent read any instances of blown head gaskets or anything. My motor only has 51K on it so im starting pretty well off.
