Question lowering a 500E

Hi everybody,

Is it possible to lower a 500E with just some springs?

must the self-leveling system be adjusted?

Who makes these springs?

Thanks.

Roald

In point of fact, 500Es have rolled fenders.

Roald, your car doesn't appear to ride high so I humbly submit you try new rubber and see how it looks. It may surprise you.

Your right Michael, but if you drop the car too much won't it look like a low rider?? If it does thats when you need to slightly roll the fenders so the rims don't rub against the fender.

On complete compression stock-ish ruber doesn't rub-so, if you drop it you're not really changing the arc of the suspension on compression, only its static resting point. So, if you drop it I conclude it won't make it any more likely to rub (unless you get into the changing out of the rear links for camber adjustment, then I have no idea)

thanks

You may just need to adjust your Rear Self-leveling suspension a bit, sometimes a adjustment is in order.

Do a search in the archives.

Roald,

If you only want to lower the Benz a little in the rear, you might want to check what spring pads the car currently has. Take a flashlight and have a look at the topside of the springs to see how many bumbs you can see on the pad...
1 bump is 8mm thick springpad,
2 bumps is 13mm thick springpad
3 bumps is 18mm thick springpad

If it has the #3 springpads, you can easily lower it with the #1 springpads (without having to worry about the self leveling shocks).

Flavio, what are you trying to test? Krijgen we nu een Nederlandse tak binnen het mercedesshop forum?

greetingz,

greetingz,
MBenz,

No, I was trying to help Tjoepie with his signature pic but somehow this forum does not show PhotoPoint links correctly.
