300/320 24v brakes on 190

I am considering fitting the font brakes from a 300/320 24v to my 190 how much bigger are these then the normal 300 12v/ 190 16v brakes. Will the dust shields still fit , are the calipers and rotors a sraight bolt on ? will this setup work ok with the original master cyl ?, the car does not have ABS will the front end lockup too easily in the wet ?
Thanks Linds U.K.

Racer,

I'm interested in finding out what EXACTLY was involved in swapping 500SL brakes onto a 190. THinking about upgrading my 16v with the aluminum calipers off of one of the 500Es.

My email address is yhliem@intergate.ca

Thanks!

Exclamation 500SL Calipers

nuthing - new 17" wheels and thats it. I have a 90 2.6 all I had to mod was the rear brake dust sheild, which ment taking it off to get the dust shield off. THen you have 14" 4 piston brembos on your car. call me if u want the calipers i have a unbeatable deal.

as I said at first you WILL need a HUGE offset wheel.
a 16" will NOT clear the calipers.
a et35 will not clear.
I have a set of hub centric spacers with et40 wheels.
I have yet to find a nice fitting offset but I think a et30 will make it.

really? hmm...when i was researching the swap, i was told that the stock hub would not handle the 500e/500sl components and would have to be upgraded. and i would have thought that stock 16" 500e/500sl rims would work

Angry Calipers

OK THESE ARE THE NEW 500/600 /ML55/ANY PREFORMANCE Caliper. I have them on there as you can see... AND NOOOO THEY DO NOT CLEAR 16" RIMS. THESE ARE FROM 99-00 CARS AND BOlT TO THE HUB. AS I HAVE SAID BEFORE ALL U HAVE TO DO IS REMOVE THE DUST SHIELD SO THE WIDE CALIPER FITS, ABOUT 4" WIDE.

i was just asking for clarification because discussions i've had with 2 mb dealer service shop foremen (both of whom have owned 2.3-16s), numerous service advisors as well as a partner of AMG Canada who races a 16v with 500E brakes on all four corners, i had been led to believe that to install 500e/sl brakes onto a 16v would require swapping more than just the calipers and removing dust shields.

there's no need to shout . i wasn't suggesting that you didn't upgrade your brakes or didn't know what you're talking about. i was talking about the brembo aluminum calipers that were standard on the early model 500E or the cast iron calipers that were standard on earlier 500/600sl's which incidentally DO fit 16" rims. I thought you were talking about the same calipers.

sorry to have troubled you.
