M110 to M103 swap?

Got a friend with a 280sl euro spec he has had forever. Its got 150K miles but the body is excellent. Its some special edition with way better looking wheels and a 5spd manual.

My question is will that transmission bolt up to a m103? I think the car would turn into a missle with a efi converted and tuned m103 without ruining the tranny if it fits.

M110-m103

i owned a 107 chassis that originally had a M110, it had been converted to a M103, all seemed original, it appeared that it bolted right up, but i honestly cannot say for certain

Your friend will need the complete FI system and the ignition amplifier for the M103 to run properly.

Starters are on the opposite side of the bellhousing between those motors. He will need the correct m103 gearbox.

If you're going to the trouble of swapping in an M103, why not use an M104 instead? Same engine mounts and same bell housing bolt pattern.

He wants as little electronic work as possible. The first step is to swap in a stock m103 and later convert for the efi. The m104 conversion woud take longer due to several electronic differences. The m103 seems to be a direct swap sans the transmission hurdle.

Early M104 is CIS-E so the electronics wouldn't be much different then a M103.

The m103 and m104 cis-e is different than the m110. It would actually be harder to get them to work. The harness is a mess. You would also need the ezl. The hfm m104 from a early w124 is perfect. no throttle control and no traction control. You need the factory control unit and wiring harness out of a car and power and ground and vehicle speed signal for proper idle control and fuel shut off.
Should be fun though.
