M116 Euro tri-y manifolds

How hard is it to swap euro manifolds to the us 420sel engine? Is it a simple bolt off and on install?

I personaly have not tried, but i assume it would be a matter of having the down pipes for the exhaust modified to match, the manifold should bolt up ok to the engine, they wont bolt up to your current down pipes so from there its abit iffy with where the pipes go, whether they will be able to go past steering items and framework without been bent out of shape and negate the benifit of having the 560 manifold.

If u have the tri-ys and they dont work out i ll buy them from you, i have a Australian car 450SLC which is right-hand drive like euro cars and will work with the headers.

So, to answer your question, it will not be a straight bolt on modification and will cost you something like $300odd to get down pipes made to match everything up

I wondered about doing this on the M117 engine in my SEC. I bet Jonathan at Blueridge could tell you exactly what is involved.

Are we talking doing it in the car or out? Out is a breeze..in sucks..there are a couple of bolts/studs in the rear that are Really difficult to access...

Where did you find 116 tri y's?

Is there an aftermarket source for these exhaust manifolds, or do you just have to find them used?

jhodg5ck 11-14-2008 08:33 AM

Find them used..if they exist...for a 116..

You can have a set made..expect to spend about 2K for custom bits...plus another 500 for DP's.

I have a set of 117 factory tri y's..and a set of NOS AMG Headers for anyone interested.

Not that I could actually afford to buy them right now, but how much are the 117 ones?

E150GT 11-14-2008 11:04 AM

well I thought that I had found some but someone here told me that the tri-ys only exist on the euros after 1986. I saw a couple of euro 380sel's in the junkyard that had different manifolds than the ones on my car.

There are very early tri y's on 117's in 108's and the like but the ports are different and won't line up w/ the later cars.
Most of the early Gen I's Euro's have log manifolds minus the cross over pipe that the US market was graced with.

PM sent Dee8g0..!
