Talking about engine swaps, does anyone know the measurements of a M113 5L V8 engine in general, or compared to a M117? From what i keep hearing its smaller and "almost" as good as its bigger cousin the M119. Wouldnt it be as good, along with been alot easier to put in these smaller cars as the M117/19/20 while providing the same power to weight ratio.

Tho after saying that, having a AMG V12 with a 5speed manual......well u cant beat that :). unless u add afew turbos to the V8 with the extra room in the engine bay lol

What year is the motor and trans out of. Is it a 722.6 5 speed?

Apparently its a CLK-GTR engine with the 6 speed manual gearbox. Would love to see pics of that monster :D Isn't it rear engined? Kinda makes the tranny useless unless its not a true transaxle and used a short shaft.

Yes, an m113 is noticeably smaller than an m117. If you could get it to run, a 4.3L m113 (from a C43) or a 5.4L for that matter would be the perfect fit and match for a w201. Far better than an m119 IMHO

Which V12 are you planning on using?

The 6.0, the 6.9, or the 7.3?

Is it the true manual gearbox? The CLK GTR only came with a Sequential Manual Gearbox IIRC.

Well I have the motor and tranny, As far as the cost goes I have alot of help on that. Now as far as the fabrication I have never done it to a car. I have done alot semis, Pickups and farm tractors, This will be the first time I have messed with MB electronics which is why I have a back up motor that has no electronics on it. But I am still hyped about this build, I sold my super moded Dodge W200 so I want to do something psyco again.

Hell, if you want psyco get a set of '32 rails, stretch them, and make a lowboy with that engine and transmission! Talk about all engine and no car!!!

^^^^ CRAZY! I wonder if he has twisted the frame when hitting the gas...

I know my budy who stuffed a Chevy 350 into a Datsun 240Z had that problem until he braced the crap out of the car...

Ok I will try to respond to every one on one post.
The motor is from a CLK GTR and that's all I know, As far as the tranny goes I have no clue what model or what it came from other then it's a 6 speed manual that will bolt up to the M120. It was free and I didn't want to ask questions. Now for planing on this adventure there really is none when something comes up deal with it and keep going. Now as for under hood clearence I am not worried there do to using a shaker hood and bird catcher intake, That helps free up a little extra room under there.

there were only 25 CLK GTR's produced so you're not getting one of those.

did the person giving to you have a nigerian accent?

Ahh the M113 in an older body, I dreamed of that once. ditch the electronics and go MS or something, oh that would be a fun project...and driver.

I liked everything about your project (aside from the sheer complexity of course haha) until I read this. I know you are a self-proclaimed redneck, but this motor and this car deserve better than the backyard nascar treatment ;) No offense, but it really will be that much cooler if you get the thing to work in the original allotted space....

I already have a M117 ironblock fully controlled(spark and fuel) by MSII extra in my 74' 450SLC so as soon as i find a nice cheap M113 engine in it will go, the ML55 AMG seem to be pretty common as wrecked cars for some reason(damn dangerous school mums), and cheap.

One thing i would like to see is how much power a MSII or any other highend ECU would get out of the V12 M120, pretty sure theres alot left in those engines compared to stock.

You people are crazy. Big old V12s in little old cars that origionally came with small, weak V8s at best??? This group is awesome! I need to hang out here more often.

The V12 needs to go in an early 80s convertible. Firewalls can be moved, rear seats can be re-moved... If wind in the hair is good, more wind in the hair is better!
