top speeds of various models

Ok i'm a little curious about 0-60 and top speeds of various models.

I can tell you what my 89 300SEL gets with 138k miles on it:
0-60: 7.5s
Top Speed: 138 (the engine just couldn't pull it any faster)

I was curious what the top speed of of older models are mainly? Knowing that the newer models can't break 155 for the S class, i think 115 for C and E? or 130? i can't remember, if anyone knows? But models like 560SEL, early S class, the E class, and early c class? If you post and you have a mercedes stating the year model, 0-60, and top speed would help greatly! Thanks all!

7.5 seems a little quick for your car... how were you testing it?

All US model Mercedes since 1994 (or before?) are electronically limited to 130 mph, except for the AMG models which can do 155, electronically limited.

My C280 does 0-60 in 7.1 seconds, tested with a stop watch, no passengers, full tank of gas, and no brake stands. EXACT same as a 99 323i coupe.

counting

I was counting in my head actually, so, I could be extremely off, its not under 7.5 I can tell you that, I'd imagine more towards 8. It's not as bad as 9 or 10 I can tell u that too. I'll get a stop watch tomorrow

LOL...
Yes, get a stop-watch, that should definitly be more accurate.

My C280 weighs about 3400 lbs and it produces 195 horsepower.
Meanshile your 300SEL weighs nearly 4000 lbs and it produces 177 horsepower. There are many other varying factors (such as Coefficient to drag, torque, whatever); I am guessing yours would do it in about 9 seconds.

I bet you could get more like 8.0 or maybe even .1 or .2 less if you would have engaged kick-down or put it into 2 prior to testing; just so that you would have started out in 1st year.

I ran my E500 up to 157 mph this September in four back-to-back runs on a 7-mile stretch of road. It seems the top speed limiter kicked in right at 6000 rpm. The speed was measured with a GPS.

157, thats sweet, i couldn't get my 1989 300SEL to pull more than 138 going somewhat down hill. What kind of engine is in the 500E?

I can give you most any spec for any MB you can mention all the way back to the 1880's.
On your car, with catalytic converter, the 0 to 100 km/h spec is 9.4 seconds. Top speed was 200 km/h.
On a 560SEL, after 9/87 the 0 to 100km/h time is 7.2 seconds, top speed 240 km/h.
i don't know what you mean by early S-class or which E-class you want to know about.
Early C-class is a little more cut and dry-
The C220 went O to 100km/h in 10.6 seconds, top speed 207km/h
The C280 (early 104 inline 6 cylinder, not the newer 112 engine V6) did 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds, top speed 227 km/h.
These are all times for what would amount to a US version cars. I have specs for vehicles we could only dream of in the US, for example your car, a 300SEL, with 5 speed manual transmission.

Disc set given to me by our district rep. Got everything in it, all vehicles (commercial vehicles, etc), aircraft engines, ship engines, racing history, timeline, everything but Gottlieb Daimlers blood type.

Tested some 0-60's tonight, and I repeatedly got 7.0 for my 95 C280 with only me in it (and probably 100 lbs worth of 'crap' including a sub, box and amp). I did brakestands though, at about 1100 RPMS, but I have worn flex discs also (which are felt), so I think that the 2 over-rode eachother.

I am well aware that MB (USA?) rated my car at 0-60 mpy times of 8.3 seconds... but that is tested with '2 passengers and 150 lbs of luggage,' correct?

Plus I have a well worn in engine (103k miles) that has been well loosened through my lead foot! And a K&N air filter.

And all this with such precision, smoothness, and refinement...
Oh I'm gonna pass out now. Good night

500E

These cars were rated at 0-60 in 6.1 by the factory. I've beat that repeatedly by a full second, with a low of 5.03.
