6.9 into a W124?

How much work would it take to mate a M100 6.9 to a W124?

Probably more effort then it's worth. The M119 engine is available in the W124 in both 4.2 and 5 liter form. It should give plenty of power.

I can find you a 6.9 with a bad engine. It's a very heavy motor (iron block). The balance will be way out. You also need to build a dry sump system for it and somehow either mate a 4 speed to it or use a 3 speed from a 6.9.

one fact abt the 6.9 (well i could be wrong) IIRC that car had 4 speeds but 1st was locked. I say that cause i did see a 6.9 in a workshop for some work on the auto box to activate 1st gear on the same auto box in the car. Again i can be wrong here. But i am good friends with owner of that shop and ill get the exact details.

No the 6.9 is a 3 speed (the 6.3 is a 4 speed). You would have to make an adapter plate to fit a 6.9 engine to a 4 speed, as you would have to if you were to try mating an early 4.5 M117 to a 4 speed.

Another thought that came to mind is emissions, the 6.9's are pretty old engines and it may not pass.

I have that too.

The 6.9 was received this weekend.

I just thought that the 6.9 is a cool motor.

I know the M116 swap is easier, so if I do it, I am more likely to use that motor.

i know it is a 3 speed in the 6.9, the car am talking about was the last yr mod of the 6.9 (late 70s i guess) from what i understood is that the box has the 1st gear (bond) meaning to say that internally its similar to the box in a w123 280 4 sp. any way i am no expert on that car and i will ask for more details as i said, and since u already own 2, my guess is u know more abt it than i do

The 3speed transmission is the same as the 4 speed in the .1 series. The valve body is different. I can not remember the details but I remember that you just have to swap the valve body and then it is a 4 speed. I used to work with a guy that did this many times.
Also remember that the v8 swap in a 124 requires the crossmember to be repl and some changes in the firewall. You cannot just drop one in unless it is a original v8 car.

If you want to do something cool w/ your new 6.9, put it in a w123 coupe. Now THAT would be a rocket! Save the m119 for your w124....it's just more correct IMHO.

thank you man, thats what it is, from what i heard u dont even need to swap the valve body, just drill a couple of holes in specific places in that valve body.

Mate the 6.9 to a manual( need a clutch pedal to finish mine).6speed/5 speed/4 speed.Forget the auto 3 speed/4 speed robs too much hp/torque.
proper running 6.9 will easily pass any State including California emission test, but it's illegal to put an older engine in a new body in all 50 states.

With 2 W124 cab's one 4cyl turbo and another 3.6 I can tell you it will only go downhill as far as drivability and performance,My 4cyl outruns my 6 cyl and feels better at all rpms including cornering.

I second what the other poster said-get a W123 wagon or Coupe, besides being a much easier fit,it will actually be a very fun car to drive..
