1992 300 CE performance
Hey guys,
Newbie here and was wondering what I could do to the car I just got to give a little it a little more horses with some good sound. Don't want to put to much money in it right now but done in steps. Any suggestions? |

How much money you got? Sound is pretty easy, you can bolt an any old fart can. Performance, on the other hand, is expensive since their are no "bolt on" performance accessories for your car. It can be done but parts will have to be fabricated and engineered. No install manuals here..

What about putting in a new motor from Renntech or somebody like that? What kind of cost would I be looking at?

The machines at Renntech are imbued with magic. They work better than all other facilities on Earth. They might give you a free keychain?
Evil- Didn't you do the whole shebang on that engine? How much does it cost for pistons, cams, valves/headwork independently? |

Pistons (not counting multiple coatings)...... $700 Cam... Not too bad. Regrind at around........ $200 Valves plus engineering fees..................... $600 Headwork................................. Blood, sweat and tears Misc..........................................About, $5,000 Estimate on what is still needed.....About, $5,000 Never being able to finish the project because your always broke....... Priceless Should be pretty cool if my engine builder didn't sell all my parts for scrap already. I'm hoping to end this project soon. I really would like to see it come to life. Oh, If Renntech did all the crap I'm doing they'd probably be asking for $250K

I think there is a dude out there that makes a cam(s) for your car, schrick cams or something. Thats probably a good start, as replacing cams in most mercedes, except 16v 190e's, is pretty easy. You could turbocharge your stock motor pretty easily with the meca of information on this board. Best guy to talk to in your situation is RYBCC(i think thats his forum name) he has a 12v 1988 twin turbo 300ce. If you happen to have a 24v head I could build you any configuration of turbo manifold(s)

More power means springs, shocks, brakes, wheels, tires to match. Not much available bolt on for NA applications. Renntech will be about $12K-$15K plus installation for a 3.6 NA motor if they want to build it. back to reality... Not sure your motor...but be it M103-12V or early/late M104-24V start with tuning it to factory spec. ( plugs , cap, rotor, wires, FI adjustments, air and fuel filter, and whatever I forgot ! ) At the same time look for and repair any vacuum leaks. A tuned C124 is faster then you think with 0-60 in the mid to high 7 second range and a great deal of top end. A proper tune and installing a high flow spun metal cat will cost between $500-$1000 depending on how resourceful you are !!!

If I'm not mistaken your M104 is already pretty warm w/ a 7K redline..
A Properly engineered free flowing exhaust and perhaps a CAI would likely give you a few HP... Beyond that you are into $$$. If you want to sacrifice cruising/highway ability you could swap out from you 2.65 to a 2.82 or 3.07... Beyond that forced induction is likely your best bet, but given the cam profile required to run 7K efficiently on an NA car you'll be re-profiling or swapping to a more conservative M104 camshaft before going too far. Either way the above numbers are pretty spot on IMHO! Jonathan

Well, did some looking and I think the one I was driving was a Very late 92 as it def. had a 2.65 as was evidenced by the relatively low RPM cruising down the highway.
I'm Certain the 2.65 was standard on the 93 out.. Jonathan
