Lowering an SD
If anyone is planning on lowering an SD via cutting the springs, don't just cut 1 coil front and rear. The rear will be squatted bad. I luckily had several sets of springs to play with and get it right.
I found that 1.25 coils in the front and just over a half a coil in the rear will bring it down about 1.5" equally.

It all depends on how worn out the springs are. for example I did one coil front and rear on a 500SEL and put in 1-bump pads all around and it was perfect.

Yes this is correct, but I did it with 2 sets of springs both from SD's and had the same effect. My original springs were not sagging. It still had a fair amount of rake. My guess is the weights may be different enough on the diesels to make it different. Mine was also done without changing the spring pads. 1 nub in front and 2 nub in rear
Probably the reason the HR springs specify not for diesels. On a side note. I just weighed my 81 SD, 3740 with about 15 gallons of fuel and no driver.

wait a minute this confuses me regarding lowering a SD over an SE (W126 obviously), I installed a set of Eibachs on my friends diesel and it lowered the car quite nicely 1.5" with a small rake, 1 nub front 2 nub rear shims... Is there that much of a difference in Gas and Diesel Spring rates to matter when lowering the diesel?

Why would there be a difference between gas and diesel as far as the springs go? Are the weights a lot different on the two?
