W140 chassis wheel/Tire/Suspension
Car: 1992 400SE 104K
Considering an upgrade to the wheels/tires and Suspension and have a few questions. I run about 40-50K yr and want to maintqin a nice compliant highway ride but would also like a more precise feel from the car. Is there a happy medium set up that will allow more crisp handling, reduced body roll and nose dive on braking while maintaining a reasonable highway ride? I did an H&R Bilstein combination on an audi that I previously owned and found the ride so stiff it was uncomfortable for sustained driving. I've had the car since 59K and am not sure how much the suspension is worn. The control arm bushings have been replaced [85k]Is there a rule of thumb on length of service for struts/sprrings? Wheel / Tire combination. I really like the look of the AMG monoblock and I'm thinking of 17" [plus 1] set up for the car. Is anyone on the list running this size wheel on a W140? If so, what tires are you running? I'd like to be abble to stick with an HRor VR for wear purposes. Any BTDT's appreciated. TIA Chris |
