Need Help - C36 Motor into 190e 16v

Hey guys,

I am going to need some real noobish advice here unfortunately. I tried to do my own research but ended up even more confused.

Rundown: 16V with a Blown Motor, would like to put in C36 motor.

Questions: For the 190e, what stays and what goes?

What parts do I need from the C36?

Would you recommend using a standalone system such as Megasquirt? If so, what pieces do I need to buy?

Sorry for the extreme vagueness of it all, but I am really lost.

Well, I was thinking of going aftermarket from an expandability standpoint. If I am able to find a donor C36 and am able to take everything I need I would, but otherwise I would go with something else.

Well for starters, you are going to have to gut the engine bay of the 16 valve. All the CIS and its various components go away, as the C36 your planning on using uses EFI.

Do you plan on using the 16 valve 5 speed?

The Engine/Tranny are out along with the CIS components.

I would like to use the 16v's Transmission as to the best of my knowledge it will bolt right up.

IIRC, the trannie would bolt up to the 16 valve gearbox.


I think the M104, M103, and M102 all mount into the engine bay the same, so I thin from that standpoint it will work.


The only headache I can imagine would be wiring the thing up.

You already know about the space issue . . . radiator/support . . . and then the wiring for a six versus a four . . . different plumbing for a/c . . . nearly complete change out for engine electricals. Which is why the swap is typically done in a 2.6L 190E

The trans should sit in a different spot too with the 6, you'll need different shifter linkages and trans support.
