Ny one has the maps for the 7-position switch of the HFM?

In my C36 i have a 7-position switch just like 17/1 R in the CIS Cars. I know its for adjusting fuel maps in the ECU to hammer out some fueling issues.
Switch S/N is 225 545 50 28 i am not so sure abt the 545 up in that number it might be 845 its not clear in my pic. Out of curiosity i would like to see how they would affect the running of the car especially that i'll be installing a wide band. so we can have some gr8 data on how the switch is reacting. i beleive the switch only adjusts the ignition timing for different grade fuels, i have them written down somewhere, il have to have a look around,
it will be almost impossible to tell the difference from the switch using a wideband |

Not sure but I don't think the maps are fixed and constant. Believe each range/setting is variable depending on the inputs. Ed |
yup and thats what am trying to find out. I know that each setting changes certain points in the map for a specific set of inputs.
Like setting 2 could be for more fuel in the low mid range , keeping full throttle the same. And so on. |
ok well the information i had only had that it adjusts ignition timing, if it adjusts fuel aswell i may be able to use it as another slight tool for the tuning of my car!
nah actually im sure i am right, its for ignition timing for different grade fuels around the world. but i have a wideband installed in my car and that same dial so in the next day or two when im in my car il try it out, but the only fuel map it "could" adjust is wot, 92% of the time its in closed loop using the narrow band o2 sensor for feedback to stay between 14.2-15.2:1 a/r i do hope to be wrong tho! as if i am and it adjusts fuel it will benefit me aswell |
On the very early LH cars, there is a 7-position trim adjustment for both fuel injection maps, instead of the usual knob for the ignition (EZL) maps. It's possible that some C36 models could have this as well. I've never seen it on an HFM car, but I've never owned one either, lol. USA-spec cars didn't get either these knobs, at least on LH cars. Instead, we have fixed settings for the LH (injection). The LH cars adjust ignition maps by swapping a coding resistor on the EZL itself (a round plug widget).
I'm away from home at the moment, without access to the worldwide EPC, but I can check out that part number next week. Probably is "545" which is common for electrical items (Group 54). :hat: |

Ooops - you were right, I did forget! :o I tried looking up the part number in the EPC (225 545 50 28) and it was a dead end, nothing found. But now that I re-read the original post (and title!), I realize you're trying to locate the definition of the HFM maps. The bad news is, I haven't been able to find this anywhere for the LH maps, or the HFM either. I've got the diagnostic manuals and the WIS, but it doesn't seem to be in there - at least not that I can find. This is VERY frustrating, since I'd really like to know what each of the settings do. Sure would be nice if someone could dig up the information, though. Worst case you could do testing for each of the 7 positions, and figure out which one makes the most power... but that will take quite a bit of time! :nuke: |

Old post, but through some cross referencing, I sorted this out.
Settings 1-6 have decreasing values of resistance (resistors) and 7 is open. 1 across from the index mark would be for the highest octane fuel and 6 would be the lowest. 7 is open. There's more to it, the index is off one to the right. So with it set on 1 like you have it, the resistance value is infinite or suitable for the Highest octane fuel available. This is the correct setting for 95RON LEADED PREMIUM on a non catalyst car. For catalyst cars that use unleaded 95RON premium the setting would be 4 at the index and 6 for 91RON. G |
According to my owners manual, for the C36, only setting 1 or setting 3 is to be used depending on the use of 98 RON or 95 RON octane rating fuel.

altering the timing WILL see changes in the afr.
if the timing is retarded, with the same grade and ammount of fuel, then less of it will burn and the wideband will show richer, like wise if the timing is advanced, with the same grade and ammount of fuel, more of it will burn and the wideband will show leaner. i have done this with the megasquirt, every change in ignition timing causes a increce/decress in req fuel. |
