The calipers seem oversized compared to the rotor, yes? They don't seem to be stopping the hand spun wheel too well.

ha ha ha ha the diskcs are gonna be two piece alloy bell and ceramic disc, currently on order from brembo, this is just a mock up for mesuring purposes to make sure the caliper clears everythin, and i havent put the brakes on in the video to stop the wheel,i'm just spinin it to look pretty.

Just a reminder, brakes only work as well as the proper tires that can provide the contact patch on the road.

x2, very important concept!!! ^^^^

Big brakes and cheap-o low priced tires will NOT stop you quicker. In fact, it will stop you much slower since ABS will engage very soon and increase your stopping distance dramatically.

You need very good sticky tires to take advantage of big brakes. These are usually expensive, and they don't last long at all so plan to replace them every 15k miles or less.

The Michelin Pilot Sports in 18" 285/35 are more than $300 each. A set of four, plus labor is around $1500. My '02 Porsche that has big Brembo's from the factory goes through these tires about every 10k miles (about 9 months, for me).

AMG C63 owners can attest to high tire replacement cycles. Historically, Mercedes cars come factory equipped with seriously expensive tires since they are expected to handle high speed touring from the very start.

funny that, i've got one of arguably the rarest of all the special mercs ever built, that cost me a fortune to buy in the first instance. I've spent thousands on the mechanicals rebuilding it, plus far too much to think about on the brakes themselves'

I've sourced the best and most expensive seats available (recaro C), the best suspension available (correct period amg very very costly).

all the other parts i'm using are premium brands,my head gasket was the only correct amg 3.2 12v one sold by mercedes in the uk and cost 350 quid as apposed to 50 odd for std one.

all that and i'm getting lectured on the advantages of correct tires choice and the cost to replace them???

**** if you wanna talk cost go price up brake pads for the 63 amg's cos thats where the calipers are from, go check the price of these calipers..........

wtf you think i'm gonna run on there budget remoulds (do they even do "cheepo" tires in 19" fitments?) when i had my 19" brabus wheels on last year the tires i ran were std fitments on the ferrari 355. the rears were 295 30 19 and over 300 gbp each, not dollars. i dont pay labor cause i'm kinda friendly with the tire seller i use due to never fitting cheepo remoulds.

this thread was to show what brakes will fit a 124, the answer is a lot more than you'd believe listening to others on this and other forums

oh well id better "remember" to not use remolds on my twin turbo amg that is demonstrably faster and more powerful than most all the other mercs around

That's really cool, actually, the whole car even. I was curious how that wheel looks on a CE. The brake issue comes up often on here and it's always, "NO! Nothing bolts on! Waste of money!" It's nice when the one or two who've gone bigger shut that nonsense up, and this thread started out doing it.

I assume you made an adapter bracket? Easy?

as for the adaptors, you may or may not need, it depends on which disk you choose as there are a few to choose from both in thickness, diameter and line in relation to the center line of hubs to centerline of different calipers, but just remember, mercedes or any other company dont keep reinventing the wheel when they upgrade the vehicles either when they increse the performance of a model or when they upgrade to do the next model, ie 201 202 203, there are very few differences, you just need to know the specs of each, and then apply it to which one you've got.

ate and brembo calipers are so similar you wouldn't believe for example c class "210" the 280 and c36... brakes are the same, just posher looking on the c36 both std are 315mm discs and the calipers interchange, this is a good first upgrade for 124 and 201 and both fit sl 129,

the hammer used sl107 brakes, the e5oo used sl129 multivalve brakes either 320 or 500...... check out e 55 brakes, with the right combination of parts, they fit 124 and 201 and....on on it goes steering knuckles and lower arms can apparently cause problems with the fitments of some cross pollination of calipers due to lines and big disks, but they can all be swapped for sport line, you can even interchange hubs if needed.

dont let the "oooh you cant do that" sayers put you off, bigger is better, when i find a set of brembo eight pots and 380mm disks at right price they will be on my ride and these little 355's will be for sale with all hardware needed to fit to wich ever ride the buyer has.

jayrash, sorry if you wee offended by my reply, no offence ment

the tone of the first answer about size of the calipers in relation to the test disk i was using, and not stopping a wheel spun by hand set my heckles up to start with, then the next post just annoyed me to the bone.

i aint tryin to show i'm rich, i'm not, it's took me 7 years to get to the half finnished state my cars in right now, and the car was brought with money left to me.

i know there are guys on hear, you are an example of one, that just lookin at the ammount if cars you've got listed in your posts, have got a dam sight more money invested in your toys than me, and remember the amounts of money i speak about arent massive sums that you'd have to be loaded to pay out, they are just percentage wise much more than standard parts.

i was just trying to show that i will not fit dodgy parts to save a few hundreds.

it just got on my nerves when i was talkin brakes, and cost of tires was brought up and it was like they thought i was some fool who bolted some brakes to his car without doin a lot of research, and spending all his hard earned on his car, wich i have up to now, even at the risk sometimes of leaving my other commitments short!

there have been comments on the state of the paint work on my car, thats just an example of the fact that i aint botherd about the shine and can only pay for one thing at a time, so, until its mechanically finnished and perfect, then i'll save up and paint it.

had to scrap the ceramic disk plan, the supplier has messed me around too much, so i setteled on plain alloy bells with hcs discks, fittted caliper and finalised the spacing issues, pads should arrive by the end of this week, so its all done
