For the most part, there isn't much. The 617 is a mechanical unit, as is the 603, I hear. So no such thing as plugging in a "hot" chip. There are many items to upgrade in concert to really make enough gain to notice. Buy something else to "hop up".

Freeing up the exhaust helps slightly, noteworthy gains if you have a California car with a plugged Trap Oxidizer. (The football shaped thing under the turbo.)

If you really want to go crazy with them, you can source a Bosch "M" injection pump and have Myna over in Finland rework it. There are some crazy people making these engines roar, but it's not cheap. The pumps that are stock on engines here in the USA are Bosch "MW" pumps, and not nearly as adjustable.

The only performance gain you can really get is to transplant the drive train in a lighter chassis...

The SuperTurboDiesel site above will have tons of information. However, you didn't explain what kind of power increase you're looking for. If you want to get 10-20% more power than stock, that is possible via tweaks and adjustments (mostly to the IP settings). If you want any more, it gets difficult and expensive real fast.

First you need to check the performance on both your cars to make sure the power output is equal to when it left the factory. The easiest way to do this is to check the 0-60 time with a stopwatch, after verifying the speedometer accuracy via GPS. You should be within 1 second of factory spec (the specs are available here in an Excel file). If your car is much slower than stock, something is wrong, start by fixing it and getting the performance back to stock. It's amazing how many cars out there are much slower than MB intended!

BTW - pulling the ALDA off is not the solution. I sure am sick of hearing everyone claim that is the magic fix for everything, including world peace.
