Hi from NZ,
You will need to have an exhaust manifold and downpipe made to suit!

Cheers,
Paul

This will be a slow project as I have a full time job so I will only be able to work on it after work and weekends. But I will keep updating. hopefully I will be able to get a manifold soon and get the party started...

hey fred,
good to see another lad joining the forced m104 club.
i had a manifold built from a friend of myne,
the answer would be to go for a simple log style design based around the factory manifold like turbo e320 used,
probebly best bang for your $ option,
good luck, ask away on the open forum if you need any help along the way.
your gona have fun, an gona need some dedication

Joreto found that the 350SDL exhaust manifold fits with the M103 if you drill new holes in the mounting flange. I would take a chance in a junkyard to see if the exhaust ports line up (mounting holes will not) with the M104 as they do in a M103. I just purchased a 300SDL turbo exhaust manifold from a forum member to slap on my M103. The manifold gasket listing is the same number for the 350SDL and 300SDL = same mounting = same size holes = (from my standpoint) same manifold. So you've got options if you want to go down this road...pretty much any diesel with an OM603 under the hood (late w126s, w124 300Ds, w140). You should be able to find one in a junkyard if you scour hard enough, might be able to use the turbo on them too if you wanted a spare. If you're planning on making a log-type custom maifold, you might as well give it a shot. Sure beats spending 1200 euros on a custom welded piece made for 500+ hp if you're not wanting to do that much.

IIRC the Mosselmann turbo kits are twin turbo and made to use t2/t25 turbos right? You would need a flange adapter to fit T3/T4s.

M104's have completely different ports(4 bolt oval style). There is no way a manifold that fits on a m103 will fit on a m104 and vice versa. They are way too different.

Hi buddy.

I'm going down similar road (M103 instead) & have been talking with some members on here in my thread here. Thanks to all who have helped!

I will be fitting my rebuilt Garrett T03 high-flowed to T04. Whereabouts in Aus are you? I'm in VIC btw. If you approach a performance/fabrication shop they will make you a custom ext mani. They will probably want the car to fit it properly. I found 2 guys here that are more than willing to fabricate 16 guage steam pipe. Pretty much the same as Romans custom one one member has mentioned in this thread & works out much cheaper obviously due to $ exchange rate & shipping.

I would avoid @ any cost using the M104 stock manifolds if they are anything similar to the M103, fabricating into a single turbo custom job. Not sure about M104 though? My cars set up originally by previous owner used the orig' ones & the flow is not good @ all. Especially if you are wanting to eliminate lag somewhat & get good response I have heard in the past shocking testimonies from people having poorly fabricated manifolds on turbo Mazdas.

Also, I will be getting mandrel bent 3" ext' system custom made straight from turbo ext' housing through to tail & new aluminium IC piping to replace the heavy steel piping. Hopefully this will be started in the next week or so once engine is sorted. You may find it helpful to follow this build? However, I will be throwing a fair sum @ this project as I am forced to revamp the entire running gear thanks to previous owners ignorance @ blowing the forged engine it had.

Excellent to see another Aussie boosting a solid Merc

Hope this helps some?

Cheers,
Tim.
