Thanks Ed I did find megasquirt trigger wheels were about $35US but these are even cheaper still. Great help as usual

Can't believe what I read from a thread back in 2005 concerning EPA emission legislation. If my car was an 86' instead of an 87', & I ran it on dedicated LPG, wait for it......it would not need to pass any requirements due to the pre-86' law only applying to petrol & dual fuel powered vehicles

I can't believe it because I'd prolly get away with an aftermarket ECU as well although, rules state ALL post 76' cars cannot have an aftermarket EMS & also includes piggyback's ......anyway, will be talking with an Engineer & hen shop on Monday to get to the bottom of this.

For VIC residents, let's cut through the bull**** & clear up some misinformation! Below is a list of 'certain' legal modifications allowable to post 86 vehicles.

a) External wastegates are not permitted PERIOD! But, I will be discussing with an engineer soon about plumbing it to the down pipe.......
b) BOV's are legal but need to be plumbed back!
c) Aftermarket EMS ie: ECU's are permitted but must be "sealed" or otherwise constructed so as not to be re-programmable & meet the appropriate ADR!
d) Custom Plenums illegal

I especially like c) as if it wasn't allowed, my project would be over!!!!!!

I will add more precise info when I have time but the above miniscule info was purely to answer cold hard facts before I proceed any longer with this build!

Now fellas, let's get back to the original plan.....

THE BEASTY LIVES AGAIN!!!!

After lamenting & stressed to the eyeballs over the last week, today after persisting with engineers over the phone I found one willing to work with me

As long as it remains dedicated LPG I can virtually do what I like! He just wants the intake manifold stock other than the mixer set up. 10mm clearances all around whole car. Upgraded brakes (already have the set I purchased). Suspension not too modified. Wella. He sees the car when it's finished & writes the VASS cert

Needless to say I phoned workshop immediately & told him. Also, will be 'bottom mounting' turbo on manifold. Will be most prolly using a Haltech aftermarket ECU so I can run direct fire coil packs to protect against detonation. I know the weak links of the stock engine are the rings/landings & HG.

Am negotiating with shop today U& may even bring car home to finish some fitment of parts myself. I have been put onto an engineer shop in northern Europe my a member down under on another forum who fabricated "bolt-on" engine parts & offers VEMS EMS complete with plug & play harness May even get an turbo exh mani from him as my shop has increased prices. Ahhh don't you luv these morons

THINGS ARE CERTAINLY LOOKING UP! It's just if I bring car home I don't have means or know how to do the intercooler piping & any fabrication ie: custom dump pipe & exhaust, not to mention tune.....

The M103 engine is internally balanced huh.......hmmmmm......you remove the harmonic balancer when using a crank trigger wheel.......

anyway, building my list for parts from Estonia

custom carbon steel header with dismantled ext wastegate pipe & WG
custom dump pipe to suit wastegate plumbed back
VEMS Ecu & harness
ignition gear (trigger wheel/s; coil packs; Ecu sensors)

When they arrive I can powder coat & paint individual parts Once they're fitted, I can get custom 3" mandrel exhaust made.

In the meantime, I have the suspension to sort inc guard work to fit the 8.5" BBS rims. Install the sound system. Install front brake upgrade.

Hopefully I can get the car home tomorrow or Tues @ latest? I'm keen to get started.......this way I will have pics to put up as I go

Cars home sooooooooooo........here we go!

I've opted to leave suspension & wheels/tyres for last, just before I get it engineered as money can be better spent right now on engine parts

For starters I am going to give her a clean inside & out & get some trans oil & fill her up then, turn the engine over a bit to get the oil 'round everything. I just need to discuss with Euro guy the finer details prior to ordering gear.

May have to top mount turbo after all as if I bottom mount it, I'll have to rotate comp snorkel & it will be pretty tight runners needed and dump pipe will be close to chassis. Just awaiting reply from OS engineer. He'll then do up a pre-invoice for parts & fab work then we're good to go!

MAJOR UPDATE:

OK. Car is not returning to the 2nd workshop where up until a week ago or so it was! I have just today spoken with the actual head office suppliers here of the LPG set up I am running, Gas Research, who in turn have put me onto their preferred fitter/specialists who's shop is about an hr & a half from me. Top guy who is both very knowledgeable & helpful, straight up front! Exactly what I have been looking for for 1 1/2 bloomin years! Sorry but I'm pissed But really, I am very happy I have now found the right shop! (Last shop used to be their retailer haha ) Remember I am customising a Merc on LPG & live in Australia So, cutting through the bullshat.....near impossible

OK! Here's some facts baby! When using LPG via a mixer as a fuel in a boosted application like mine, in order to ensure flow rate meets boost, you must sort out the LPG delivery properly! Sounds easy? Yeah right.......

First! The tank can have restrictions present, such as narrow lock-off valves/power valves etc, even inside tank as well This can straight away be a bottleneck restricting LPG flow to converters. Get this wrong & doesn't matter whether you have 6 friggin lines to the carb, 10 converters & 5 carbs. It will be restricted! Then, LPG flows towards converters where it is converted from liquid form to vapour where it then enters mixer (carb) then flows through manifold & then obviously to combustion chambers.

So, I will update this later but have spent hrs & hrs today (like I have the time ) researching & talking with guys to get it all right before I go charging @ bolting stuff on everywhere. I have ordered the 2 new B2 LPG converters that will supply vapour to mixer. I am sending my old mixer to shop to have it looked over & prolly will get a bigger new one or, bore out venturi to allow more flow to engine.

I am also confirming invoice for parts from Scandinavia today before officially ordering & paying for them so fabrication can begin.

I have stripped interior of car ready for sound system install too. Damn wires run everywhere on these cars. Down both sides of floor I want to run RCA leads separate to power leads obviously but even the elect switched that run under console between front seats cause me a problem. I should really run speaker wires away from RCA too. Bloomin wires

I'm also sorting where to fit both converters. They really should be mounted horizontal due to mixing of the B2 brand converters. Prolly on left guard of engine bay, one atop the other? I want it neat but this will make it difficult to hook lines/hoses up. Having them side by side in parallel positions will be easier to hook up lines but take up alot of space.

Anyway, will update when I sort it out

oh.....& you don't need to run twin LPG lines from tank to the converters either. 1 8mm line will feed 500-600hp! That saves me some severe trouble

EDIT: well you just gotta luv PayPal huh......6 months it will take them to lift limit imposed on engineers' OS account & after heaps of paperwork! So, now I have to do several bank transfers which I was trying to avoid Now he has to return my money into my PayPal account. Better not be charged for this damn it...........nothing is ever simple is it

Sound system Update:

Have decided against using the fibreglass bucket enclosure for subs in boot. Cannot read where this design would work? Kinda like a basspass enclosure but it cannot be sealed properly so, doubt it works well. Just means I have to seal the sub boxes they sit in now.

The 2 rear parcel shelf vents can act to let some of the subwoofer bass sound into cab. I will prolly install rear 6 1/2" coaxial woofers over against rear screen on the parcel shelf.

Have installed head unit. Wrapped double-sided insulation around all 3 RCA cables due to the electrics put round everywhere. Seems to be a few burnt out wires like, auto door release wires? Wires that run through rubber grommet in floor out to brakes (I guess), they've been cut. Annoying but not critical

Not alot of choices for decent front 6 1/2" coaxial woofer install in these cars is there. Kickpanel is out of the question. Not cutting into that structure plus, too close to wiring that runs up into dash on drivers side. Dash well, obviously out too. Not cutting into that no way! I've pretty well decided on the front door trims just below door release handle. Just have to sort out some kinda enclosure? More rootin round Fitted here, @ least there's plenty of leg room & sound won't be muffled.

Will be using custom Sony tweeter covers for both front & rears. Rear ones sit over rear pillar interior cover & fronts will sit in a custom dual tweeter enclosure that sits behind rear vision mirror, kinda toward back. See pics:

Cut out spot will be in flat section, below door handle release:

This is the front tweeter enclosure. Middle hole will be dummy. Needs fabric cover. Still to cut out centres for larger tweeters:

Rear tweeter covers that sit over pillar panel:

well.....had my money returned from PayPal. 100% return from seller with no fees I know I had to pay CC interest but, can't help that now. Once I have sellers bank details, I can start wire transfers. Never had to do these before but due to his account limit, have to do multiple payments.

As far as I know though, he has begun work on the parts fabrication Once the gear arrives (no idea whatsoever when) I will have some major bolt ons to do & have a go @ wiring the ECU in. Can't do the intercooler piping (not looking forward to that) until I have the header for turbo to sit so that'll have to wait.

Still awaiting twin converters from down here but can maybe use the old one to begin making bracket up.

Have some time today to hopefully sort the car speakers out anyway. What a bugger of a job this is. I need some sort of pods for the front doors but EBay only has angled ones for kicker panels. I want them facing straight out from door. The rears are a real pain due to the LPG tank sitting right underneath rear parcel shell. If it's too much of a hassle I may just use some ready bought enclosures for these? It's just that I would prefer the rears to face a little up toward rear screen & not straight into cabin.

Anyway, progress still...........
