That's correct, set it with the holes lined up with the surface of the head and crank at tdc.
I don't know what you mean by U marked pin. There's only one hole on each can sprocket thats 4mm oriented the same way on the intake and exhaust side. I'll try to post a pic if I can. |

Ok but does the Engine runs smooth on idle and when you rev it? Im having the c36 amg 3,6 litre Engine. My exhaust camsprocket has an U mark on the side where the sprocket is bolted to the camshaft attached, the side that facing towards the radiator so there is possible to mount the camsprocket to the camshaft on 2 possible ways.
So you did set it to the standard setting like all the m104? do you know from which year the Engines are from? // Last edited by zibpka; 07-08-2019 at 04:22 AM. |

Have you tryed to adjust the timing this other way?? 1- the exhaust Sprocket set using the U dwell hole. 2- Intake variable set to retard. 3- The 4mm holes with the timing chain firm are slightly over the head level on the intake side and slightly lower than the head on the exhaust cam. Maybe you could test this |

Idle and acceleration https://youtu.be/75K37CNJC0g I'll check my cam sprocket later but I'm pretty sure mine only bolted up one way. |

I think you should check the timing, because the 3.6 AMG cams are not timed at the original way.
Read this link: https://www.benzworld.org/forums/w202-c36-amg-c43-amg/2519417-double-checking-3-6-cam-timing.html#post17653088 If you have time change the timing and tell us if the engine if better or worse Quote:

I have used the setting where i put the intake camshaft line up with the cylinder head and the sprocket in retarded position and the exhaust camshaft with one tooth above the cylinder head and the crank in OT(TDC)
and the car runs fine on both idle and acceleration. |

Has anyone try the 3.6 car in a dyno??
Because there's still at least two different ways to set the cams?? I have also read this: "The M104 AMG engine does not use the standard line the dowel holes up level with the surface of the head. The Exhaust can is advanced 2 degrees by using a different dowel hole location. The dowel on the exhaust cam should be on the U hole. This will put the 4mm hole alignment mark just above the surface of the head by 2-4mm. The Intake cam is also advanced, the alignment mark will be 2-4mm below the surface of the head. Rotate the engine clockwise 2 turns and verify the cam alignment marks are in the correct place at TDC, do this a few times if your unsure. If you mess it up more than 1 tooth it will break valves and the cam. So, exhaust cam mark just above the head, intake cam mark just below the head. Double and triple check the alignment by turning the engine by hand 2 rotations, then check again! Cant be too careful, and none of us wanna pull that stupid upper cover to fix it." This is not so easy |

The motor is stock. It’s got a aluminum flywheel, clutch fan delete and a 3.07 lsd rear end. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
