Eric, now i am using full synth Eurol 5W40, one of the best i have tried so far on this engine with regards to lifter noise and oil consumption. will be switching to the Eurol 5W50 race formula, until the temps drop in the winter.

rock n rolla is also a great flick, but not directed in the same way as the other two, its more mainstream, imho
as for layer cake, the idiots in the yellow rangie remind me of a few peeps i have the unfortunate experience of knowing!!!! lol

Removed the cats
As an experiment I had the rear cats on the C36 removed and replaced with straight pipes. I inspected the interior of the cats, expecting to find 15 years worth of dirt and crud in there but no, they were clean and unclogged. The front part was grayish-black while the rear of the honeycomb was a healthy reddish-brown.
The net effect of the removal was that the car lost a LOT of low-end torque. I only have my butt dyno but 10 years of driving this C36 told me that there is a lot less pull down low with the cats removed. It did pick up on the higher RPMs but the C36 already had a lot of power there in the first place, not what I wanted.... and the hesitation at 3200 RPM had moved to 4000 RPM but was still there... No Joy, today the cats were re-installed and things are back to normal other than the strange look the muffler shop owner gave me when I asked him to have the cats re-welded in place. |

If ur sayin that with cats removed low down is less, i really dont want to know how much low down power it has with the cats, on our roads i already have trouble dealing with the spin in the low revs due to torque.
on a side note, my C36 if switched off after a hard run and then started after a few min seems to lose alot of low down power but still pulls hard after the 4000RPM, as for the flat spot well it becomes a dead spot in which if caught in 3rd or 4th on an uphill the engine struggles to go passt it.

Bong, you maybe should have left the cats off for a longer period of time, maybe even a week or two to let the ECU adapt and richen the A/F Ratio to the new, freer flowing exhaust, then do your butt dyno testing. It does take the ECU time to adapt to drastic changes.
Jay, that is a classic "heat soak" situation you are describing and it is causing the CTS to scream to the ECU: "Pull the advance out of the timing! It's too hot here!" which is causing your loss of low end but I know you already know that right? Regards, Eric
