I'm using the gtech-pro/competition which currently is sold as the gtech-pro RR. It's very consistent and quit accurate compared to a dragstrip . I'd stay way from the gtech-pro SS since it doesn't have road race mode and also does not have the ability to download data to the PC for analysis . To be honest if I was looking for a datalogger now, I'd probably get the Race logic vbox mini (http://www.racelogic.co.uk/?show=VBOX-Products-VBOX_Mini) .

Got an iphone or ipod touch? Get dynolicious. Cheaper and more accurate than gtech.

I really like the G-Tech Pro EGS, except it wont let you down load the data. WTF is up with that?

That's a big misconception coming from a video on youtube done by guys who apparently have no idea how to use the g-tech. I've tested my gtech on a drapstrip in a couple of cars and the most it's been off is by 0.1 most times where in 0.01 - 0.02 ....

Also other videos ...

The HP numbers generated by both gtech and dynolicious are only as accurate as the weight information you enter into the device and your tire traction. The acceleration times are the only thing an accelerometer accurately measure without driver interference. I've used dynolicious in several cars and the acceleration times it spits are are always spot on. Can't beat that for $12.99. I've seen gtech generate results all over the place. Its simply not accurate. Besides, try explaining to the cops why you're cruising around with a gtech on your windshield.
cheers

There are 14 dynamometer apps between free and $12 for the Iphone/Ipod. No reason to be spending $100+ on this stuff anymore.

Interesting, I've been using the g-tech for some years now and I've never had results all over the place, as a matter of fact the results always are very consistent and very accurate (as I've said I've tested it a couple of times against the drag strip timing equipment). If used properly it is very accurate, even tested it against a race logic performance box and the result were very similar.

agreed, but thats only if you already own and iphone or an ipod.

There are also similar apps for windows mobile and android phones which have built-in accelerometers. There is one for the android that uses both the accelerometer and gps in order to get a more accurate result ( http://dynomaster.trackaroo.com/welcome )

My friend had a G-Tech pro, RR I think. I was supposedly the 'good' one. It seemed accurate and was fun to quickly go out and get some numbers off of cars without having to go to the drag strip. Since we were using the same equipment it was easier to compare cars back to back even if the G-tech was slower or faster than actual track, it seemed to average out. It worked great up until it randomly quit working.

Hey Jon. I guess I should enter the 21 century and get a real phone.
