Underbody lighting kits on a Mercedes?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=599115082

Yea, I know alot of people are gona scoff at it and say its too ricy or maybe it cheapens the look on the car, but personally I like it. Im thinking about getting the same thing in blue for my car and I wanted your opinions on this. My friend got one of these on his M3 and without a doubt, it draws the looks of EVERYONE who sees it at night.

Its just something unique that so few people have, and its one of the few things you can do to your car that will actually stand out at NIGHT.

What do you guys think?

It's your dime, and if you would rather do this than brake, suspension, wheel, or engine upgrades, then go for it and the devil with what anyone else thinks. But I don't think you will enjoy ALL the attention it gets - Police, wannabe racers, laughter, etc. will probably outweigh any admiring looks. And it is such a dated look - kids were doing this to their cars in the late 50s and early 60s, as well as painting the inside of the wheel wells white and hanging colored lights in them.

If you want something different for at night, I would put the money towards Euro Headlights, investigate the feasibility of LED bulb replacements ( http://netdisty.net/ds/aut1157/ ), Buy some Hella Xenon fog lights ( http://catalog.com/susq/hella/microde.htm ), etc.

You knew the respones you would get.
Mine is no different.
Its ricey. Why do you want your car to get noticed?
As JCE mentioned you would be better off doing brake, suspension, wheel, or engine upgrades, or even Euro lights.

Hehehe... I think neons look great, not sure how they would look on the benz though. And seriosly, for the $200 youd spend getting the neons installed, you can't even buy 1 european headlight for a benz, so yea, I say go for it. Ive seen several bmws with neon, and they looked really cool. I would think something like the spotlight treatment Brabus is doing would look cooler though. They basically have like 5 circular, focused light beams on each side of the car. Im sure you could make one yoruself, and save some money. I think that this would look better than neons on a Benz, because Mercedes are more stately than their bavarian counterparts, and unless you have an agressive aero kit, 300Es look like big ugly boxes with funny looking wipers. (And hey, I personally am a big fan of the huge ugly box look, I think its sweet looking, but then again, I like Volvo 850 turbos, so what do I know?)

Good luck with driving with them on, i belive there illegal atleast where i live. The cops will pull you over if there on. The reon for this is that it distracts drivers. But no matter im getting them for my car, and www.streetglow.com has a good selection but don't expect them to be cheap.

The lights come with a switch that controls them from inside the car. So you can turn them on and off anytime you want from inside your car. If you have a radar detector in your car you can probably avoid cops most of the time.

Hey Booby 300E,

a rader detector only helps to avoid speeding tickets not Police. All Police are not doing radar duty.

Add to your cash and buy something else like an aftermarket muffler from Remus or Supersprint or perhaps a set of performance springs by AMG, Eibach or H&R.

Thumbs down

DONT DO IT! Plain and simple. You have a mercedes, you already stand out from the crowds of civics, and neons that pollute our streets. Those underbody kits were created to make one civic stand out from another. Please dont jump on the bandwagon. If it was my money I would invest the money on somthing that would increase the value of my car, not make it look trashy. Remember...less is more. This isnt a contest to see how much crap we can buy out of JC whittney and throw on our cars. Keep it simple and keep it clean. And for the love of God, dont turn your benz into a ricer wannabe.

Please don't do that to a Mercedes. Please. Cheapens the marque, IMHO
