Getting things ready to boost M104

After some good looking around this forum, and few others im convinced that the M104 is an engine that loves boost. I am new to the benz environment, and willing to give it a try. My plan after swapping to manual ofcourse is:
Goal HP :300 whp
Dogleg Gearbox out of the 2.3/2.5 16v 190E AMG.
KKK K27 T4 Turbo.
Tial 38mm wastegate
Custom stainless tubular Manifold.
BOV
Custom Piping.
Aftermarket mid sized intercooler.
LC-1 Wideband.

Many of you are using Megasquirt or other standalone systems, I would love to take that route, but i don't have any trustworthy tuners in my area ( in my area i mean country ).
1)I was looking at all the tuning options i have.
One of the options that seemed easy is AIC1 split second additional injector Controller. what do u guys think of that for a tune ?
2)How should i feed the turbo with oil, is the oil filter housing a good idea ? Is there an aftermarket housing or something or should i custom make these things ? And oil return feed, do you guys tap the oil sump like bmw guys ? or is there any better way?
3)Pushing 6-7 PSI , is it necessary to change timing ? and whats the best way to do that?
Project will start after manual swap immediately hoping that till then i will collect all the info i need with the help of this forum.
Many thanks

Actually the M103 is the preferred engine for boost due to better power down low in the rev ranges it affords & tuning the CIS-E? on the M104's are little more tricky. That's not to say the M104 is a concern. There are members here that own them & they are reliable. Just clearing up the 'loves boost' comment :P

Concerning oil feed line. I have an M103 but as I understand, blocks are the same (unless sump dynamics are different on the M104's?) Perhaps members who have turboed the M104 can confirm? If both blocks are the same. Tap the block as this is what I have researched as the best way to keep return line above sump oil due to oil capacity of these engines. If you tap te sump you risk hindrance to oil return flow. I know there are members with turbocharged M104's so

38mm external wastegate size should be OK with turbo your using ;)

Any reason your using a SS manifold? Steampipe are more durable & won't crack unlike SS can. Also they contain heat better whereas SS reflects heat. Just something to consider.

Have you considered the diff & it's limitations? What year is your car? Does yours have the later larger diff? Still, it will be maxed with this extra power :(

When i said loves boost, i meant it can handle boost with no problems despite its high compression.
To begin with tapping the block, why is it better than tapping the oil sump, I know the engine has big amounts of oil in the sump, but there will still be space in the upper corner to tap it NO ? Im just asking coz tapping the oil sump is easier. But of course i want the better no the easier. Also thats oil return, how about oil feed ? From Filter housing ?

Im using an SS manifold coz i thought it would be better, but there is no specific reason, i can use steampipes no problem.

My car is 1991. The diff is not a problem now. I think i can get the diff of a 190E 2.3/2.5 if mine was not up to the task.

What about the split second extra injector control?

Hey BAD300, meet Ram, my good friend and buddy who's helping with my M104 project. :)

Bad, I'm not sure which diff I have, but I'm almost positive it's an LSD. The car went in for the manual swap today. We're gonna stick in the 5 speed that came on the 300E, but if my mechanic finds the dogleg we're definitely going for that.

When the diff blows, we'll swap in the 2.3/2.5 one like Ram said. :D

Ram is better versed in fueling and electronics than I am, and it's a pleasure to have you both on my quest for power. :)

Hi Shoooma :)

I am looking @ a 2.3 16V diff down here @ the moment myself  OS Freight has so many hidden costs it's unbelievable.

guys read either my thread or RBYCC's thread and u will find a document from TT on where to tap the sump

nick.ged 09-02-2010 06:08 PM

if you are gonna use split second controler, the 104 cis will be as simple as the 103 with cis is to tune, as long as you can find a good place for the extra injector itself to be positied, the turbo technics kits came with an additional injector holder by the way.

the fuel tuning involves using a laptop and a gas analizer in the exaust to tell the extra injector how much fuel to add fuel under boost, on a rolling road, **** u cud even do it on the fly if you fit a wideband with a display.

the car doesnt even no any of this is there, the timing is alterd in the standard way, with the 'knob' provided,~(cut the wire and turn it to the desired position, but on a 104 i'm not sure wich setting you would need though.

at 6-7 psi that ~^~ is exactly what turbo technics did, and the 320 24v made 350 bhp.

tap the sump right at the top on the 3 or 4 bolt position.

wish I friggin knew this before taping block. Another member assured me you couldn't tap the sump

EDIT: Lazy basards haven't tapped block yet so I will be popping into workshop soon to show them the location for tapping sump :D ,,,,phew

Jay, I could only find a TT thread by Ortolan's below:
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/mercedes-benz-performance-paddock/178881-turbo-technics-e320-parts-list-installation-reviews.html?highlight=tap+sump

nick.ged has provided location anyhow so, big thanks guys ;) This is why this site is so unique. Solid information rather than rot  Some forums simply pass around half-baked info & confuse other members in the end :(

here is my thread:

Was the Turbo Technics kit intercooled? We're installed quite a large intercooler on my car, I think that would definitely help cool the intake charge and give us more power.

ramzisleiman 09-03-2010 08:13 AM

I was sure we could tap the sump instead of the block, it is a less complicated process. Anywayz, i know where to tap the sump now. One thing i didnt understand, @ nick.jed : the timing is alterd in the standard way, with the 'knob' provided,

what do u mean ?

JayRash 09-03-2010 08:20 AM

you guys have to run thru some of the threads here.
Any way on our cars on the left side fender there is a knob that has some nubers on it and the letters S and N
this is the map switch for the timing S is for 98 oct and N for low oct
then u have lower values like 6 and 7
chose one of those as a starting point or N i used to run my car on N this drops timing by abt 6 deg from the S position.

Shoomakan 09-03-2010 08:29 AM

Hey Jay, would a cam gear work on those engines? Just another option to think about.

JayRash 09-03-2010 08:35 AM

the intake already has variable timing and the exhaust has abt 2deg of retard. Since u guys wanna turbo the car i saylet the cams be for now. Its goood as it is and this engine is one of the few merc engines that makes its max power over 6000RPMs

ramzisleiman 09-03-2010 08:49 AM

retard by 6 degrees should be enough right ? so if we run the car on N things should be fine right ?

This mean cam gears are not necessary.
