Smile 500E Breathing new life

Well if anyone has been following my trials and tribulations with the local dealer and my insurer, they will be glad to read this posting. I took my trailer and picked up my 92 500E ( read FYI bad luck 500E BBQ) from where it has sat for 3 months now. The brakes were seized so it was a pain getting it onto the trailer ( my winch died 2 weeks ago) but with some help we managed. The car looks great on the trailer especialy since I went ahead and bolted on my new AMG's with tires (courtesy of Luke) even though it is not currently running. I am going to start ordering some parts this week. My first goal is to get it running again so fuel pumps and filters are #1 items as well as the electronics under the rear set which may have been damaged due to the heat. I will take some photos and try to post them later. I will also be ordering the engine harness and from their I will be looking into the prospect of soldering in new connectors to the main harness from the fuel pumps etc. That may have been damaged by the fire. When I spoke with the tech at the dealership he had an additional take as to what may have caused the fire. He indicated that since the engine harness had not been replaced it could have been arcing or shorting to ground and then fuel would continue to go into the cylinder and then unburned get in to the cat. Since the cats job is also to help burn unspent fuel that may have caused the fire ( his idea not mine). I will update and probably be contacting some of you for advice as I progress ( are you out there Guido ?). To be continued.
Alan

Thumbs up

Guido, As always your help is greatly appreciated . I currently have my car up on my trailer and I will keep it their until I have taken care of the fire related items on the underside. My first question is in regards to soldered wire connections versus the screw in type of bullet connectors. We use these connectors at the track ( I do not have them with me so I can not give you the correct name for these) and I have in fact used them to splice in after market O2 connectors in my 89 Range Rover and have had not problems ( even with use in snow, water etc). I will email you with the name if needed. I will then be ordering the fuel pumps, filters etc. Ideas on the wiring ??/.
Regards
Alan

Smile

I was finaly able to move my 911 out of my garage and to a secure location. Now I have enough room to work on my 500E. My garage is a very small 2 car unit and I like lots of room when I work on a project. Tonight I put the benz on jackstands and by friday I will try to post some pictures and begin my updates.
